Gumby: The Movie (1995) - Original Theatrical Version Reconstruction (Released)

The only DVD release to date has the 76 minute Director’s Cut instead. You can also find this version on Netflix and Amazon Instant Video. However, the theatrical cut, released in 1995 (and also on VHS) is a longer cut, at 90 minutes. This release restores those 14 minutes removed, and maintains its widescreen aspect ratio (1.78:1).

I’ve posted it on MySpleen. For those interested, look for it on there (my username on there is the same as here, or just search for Gumby, since that doesn’t yield many results to begin with).

Hope you enjoy this reconstruction…

Nice work!

I will be seeding this for the foreseeable future. Thanks!

Any chance of this being uploaded to a non-torrent site?  I'd love to see it as this was one of my favorite childhood films!

Bumping this thread to tell you all that NCircle will be releasing the film on Blu-ray/DVD combo pack:
https://www.amazon.com/Gumby-Movie-BD-Combo/dp/B01M9BFWNM

According to the runtime, it seems it will be the theatrical version.

Further confirmation comes from a listing on Amazon Instant (with NCircle listed at the Studio) with a runtime of 88:36 (it still missing the Warner Vision logo though).

The theatrical cut can also be viewed on Amazon for anyone who has Amazon Prime. It’s the one listed as The Gumby Movie.

Edit: Nevermind. It’s not the full edit. The hospital scene is there but the scene of the group arriving at the barn and setting up before their first jam is cut. There’s probably more cuts but this is what I’ve noticed so far.

The version I’m currently watching on Amazon Prime has the same run time yet I so far noticed one scene is still missing! The scene where everyone first arrives at the barn and Gumby’s band sets up before their first jam. It cuts from the end of the scene where the group decides to have benefit concerts right to the jam!

Well I did message NCircle and got this response. Seems like a good sign!

'The Gumby Movie has all the scenes intact. Yes there was a little tightening from them driving from the farm to the jam session. Very slight, and done for pacing. Instead of showing them drive up to the farm, it cut right to the jam. There is a big scene in there that was not in the original VHS, so the fans are getting the best ever. All the big scenes that were deleted before are back in this version. Plus this is the first time it’s ever been on Blu-Ray in full High Definition.

I hope that answers your question. We are very excited for the Blu-ray/DVD combo in special packaging to hit retailers soon!’

So finally got around to getting the BD/DVD release and sad to report it is still incomplete. There’s still a few bits missing including what I noticed was missing from the Amazon Prime version. The film has a run time of 88 minutes even though the cover has 90 minutes, the runtime of the VHS version.

I got this release as well. 1 scene missing, and 2 smaller bits cut…the one you mentioned, with the band rehearsing at the barn. Also, some dialogue cut before Gumby shuts down the Gumby robot, and a really small cut (about 10 seconds) after the Clay Boy robots are destroyed by the water. These cuts were also done on the Director’s Cut, but the scenes themselves were included as an extra on the old DVD (but nowhere to be found on this new Blu-ray). I might just do a new restoration, using the Blu-ray for most of it, and upconverting the missing scenes from the old DVD, cropped to widescreen (they’re open matte on the DVD), and using the VHS for the audio on those missing bits. On a side note, the end credits song is still mono like the DVD, so I’ll be using the VHS audio for that too (it’s stereo there).

I was actually gonna suggest doing a hybrid cut of the DVD version with the missing bits restored from the extras of the Directors Cut but your idea sounds better.

I was planning on doing this as well. I don’t have the Directors Cut DVD. Does that DVD include the farm scene as a deleted scene?

Yes, the farm scene is included in the DVD deleted scenes.
I don’t have a spleeter account so I have no idea what is available there but
I made myself a theatrical cut version Blu-ray that I can share with
anyone that is interested.

Sources:

Ncircle: Gumby - The Movie blu ray
Kidvision: Gumby - The Movie VHS
Classic Media: Gumby - The Movie DVD Director’s Cut

For editing purposes, I decoded the blu ray audio to 24/48 PCM Stereo and
captured the VHS audio at 24/48 PCM Stereo.
Ripped and upconverted the missing scenes from the DVD.

  1. Warner Vision Films logo added at beginning of movie.
  2. Three missing scenes edited into Blu ray video.
  3. VHS audio was used for the missing scenes to have
all the audio at 24 Bit 48 kHz PCM stereo.
  4. VHS audio was used for the song “This Way 'N That”
during the closing credits to replace mono with stereo audio.

The movie is now over 90 minutes long.

You have a choice of an MKV file or an ISO file.
The ISO file is made to burn to a single layer BD-R.
It can also be played with VLC media player.
With the ISO you get a higher bitrate plus a menu.
Disc and cover artwork is also included. Cover is for
a standard 12mm blu ray case.

And how can we do the mere mortals who are interested in your work but do not have access to the site where you share it?
Is there any possibility to share with a link of easy access? Or maybe you could send it via email? I am very interested in your material!

Never thought i’d see someone restore the Gumby movie. Love to see this if there is any access to it.
