Who's read the novelization of ROTS?

Is it well done? I generally don't read SW novels or comics (disliked Dark Empire), but am leaning towards reading the novelization of ROTS to perhaps gain more insight into some of the things from the film (dark side vs. light side, Anakin's thoughts, Palpatine's political machinations, etc.). Although I grew up loving and am still a big fan of the films (OOT, that is), I've steered clear of the expanded universe material because it actually detracts from my enjoyment of watching the films. I like thinking of the characters as those I know from the films, and not having their future strictly defined by whichever author is writing any of the 20+ novels that have been written in the EU (personal opinion, of course....everyone has a right to enjoy SW however they want, right?). I definitely enjoyed ROTS in the theater, but am hesitant to read the book because it's written by someone (Matthew Stover?) who isn't as well known in sci-fi literary circles as Terry Brooks or R.A. Salvatore, who wrote the TPM and AOTC novels, respectively (if either of those guys wrote ROTS I'd definitely check it out). I'm picky when it comes to reading sci-fi and have alot on my plate (Frank Herbert, Orson Scott Card, Philip K. Dick, and Neil Gaiman, to name a few), so I just want to make sure I don't waste my time reading ROTS if the writing is sub-par. I know this is a somewhat subjective question but if any of you out there have read the novel and enjoy the authors I've mentioned, let me know if it's worthwhile. Thanks.

It was much better than the first two novelizations, which were crap.

As regular books go, it was okay, definitely worth a read for SW fans.

Also, Dark Empire wasn't all that hot to begin with, you wouldn't go wrong giving another EU book a chance

I recall a thread that mentioned ROTS novelization, before the movie was released... I think some there read it.

I read the novelizations for "Phantom" and "Clones" but I now find I just don't care enough anymore to bother reading the third episode's novelization.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

In terms of explaining the story, I preferred the novels over the films. IIRC, I liked TPM more than AOTC. It seemed to jump around a lot (as did the film.)

I thought reading TPM wasn't too bad, but AOTC was very dull and flat (kind of like the acting *BAZZZING!!!*). I think I'll give the ROTS book a try though.

Dark Empire was a comic book not a novel so you can't blame it for not being too hot when it cannot begin to contain the level of complexity that a novel holds

I read ROTS & left my views elsewhere in this forum (quite negative btw), but by all means read it... we can't tell you what it's like.....you have to form your own opinion's...we can but express our own reactions, feelings & opinion's....

you quote Philip K Dick, Frank Herbert & Neil Gaiman amongst your literary tastes...excellent choices....3 of my favourites also....

revenge of the sith novelization is better than the movie, except that it does not have the wookie scenes. Rotj novelization just like the first two was based on an earlier draft of the screenplay, so it does have deleted scenes intact, as well as one thing that was finally contradicted by lucas in attack of the clones. He decided that owen would be anakin's stepbrother and not obi-wan's brother. The book is really excellent as it goes into luke almostt turning into darth vader, his feelings and emotions and the redemption of his father from his point of view. On the whole, I think my favorite novelizations have to be return of the jedi and revenge of the sith.
