Listen Fang, here’s the deal. I’m going to tell you like it is, ok? George Lucas doesn’t like the original original trilogy. They weren’t his movies, never were, not the ones he wanted to make anyway. The Star Wars that he wanted to make…everyone told him it sucked. He had to get help with the script. The studio told him the movie had to be like this, it had to be like that. He said fine, since it wasn’t going to get made any other way. He lived with it. He made a lot of money, and that was that.
When he got the chance later on, he made the SEs. Some fixes were practical, others were him ****ing up the movies in the ways he wanted to **** them up 40 years ago, but more sensible people told him no. Now he is a billionaire and nobody tells him no anymore. He made the movies that he likes, and resents the fact that you and I like the originals that he does not like, and he only very begrudgingly gave them to us in faded, washed out, DNRd, non-anamorphic generation-old LD transfers because who the fuck would want to watch them anyways? Certainly not George Lucas.
Now George is no longer around. Kathleen Kennedy is. That’s George’s woman at LFL and Disney. She’s not going to touch those movies. She probably doesn’t care, and even if she did, she’s not going to piss off George. There is zero chance, none, never, that she will release the OOT. The only people who have the power to make it happen are her bosses at Disney. Any day…today, tomorrow…they can call her up on the phone, walk into her office, and say hey Kathleen, we’re greenlighting a new project. We want to give the fans the OOT. She would either comply or resign, but one way or another we would finally get what we want.
You know why that’s unlikely to happen? Because Disney is making a lot of money on the crap they are selling right now. It’s garbage. It’s junk. But like vulture, I mean venture capitalists, they bought the Star Wars carcass and they are going to chop it up and sell it in a million different slices and styles. They aren’t going to give you new movies. They aren’t going to give you new ideas. They aren’t going to sell you anything you haven’t seen before. They are going to give you rehash after rehash after spinoff, until they have made as much money as possible and until there is no longer any meat left on that damn bone.
You know what is the one thing that could upset that apple cart? Pissing off George Lucas. Getting into a war with him and his sycophants. Disney doesn’t want no bad press. They don’t want all those George Lucas fans who spend 12 hours a day on TFN cutting back on their SW purchases. They don’t want you guys only going to see Lost Jedi 4 times instead of 12. They don’t want you not buying the next Saga issue with deleted scenes you’ve probably already seen before, just because maybe there is some bad blood in the water.
As long as people keep watching and buying their brain-dead ripoffs, there will be no OOT.
