I used to work with a chemical called acrylonitrile. In organic chemistry, there’s a new naming convention and an old naming convention. Using the old naming convention, acrylonitrile would have been called vinyl cyanide. Which became the name of my hypothetical band, if I ever had one. Our first album would have been called Acrylonitrile, and only chemistry hipsters would know the album was eponymous.
