This is effective psychological horror.

The laugh track was in astonishingly bad taste.

It’s from that Trump show on Comedy Central, which has a live audience like The Daily Show. A laugh track free version would be nice though.

President Trump told Russian officials in the Oval Office this month that firing the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, had relieved “great pressure” on him, according to a document summarizing the meeting.

“I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job,” Mr. Trump said, according to the document, which was read to The New York Times by an American official. “I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.”

Mr. Trump added, “I’m not under investigation.”

The conversation, during a May 10 meeting — the day after he fired Mr. Comey — reinforces the notion that Mr. Trump dismissed him primarily because of the bureau’s investigation into possible collusion between his campaign and Russian operatives. Mr. Trump said as much in one televised interview, but the White House has offered changing justifications for the firing.

The White House document that contained Mr. Trump’s comments was based on notes taken from inside the Oval Office and has been circulated as the official account of the meeting. One official read quotations to The Times, and a second official confirmed the broad outlines of the discussion.

Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, did not dispute the account.

The law enforcement investigation into possible coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign has identified a current White House official as a significant person of interest, showing that the probe is reaching into the highest levels of government, according to people familiar with the matter.

The senior White House adviser under scrutiny by investigators is someone close to the president, according to these people, who would not further identify the official.

The revelation comes as the investigation also appears to be entering a more overtly active phase, with investigators shifting from work that has remained largely hidden from the public to conducting interviews and using a grand jury to issue subpoenas. The intensity of the probe is expected to accelerate in the coming weeks, the people said.

The sources emphasized that investigators remain keenly interested in people who previously wielded influence in the Trump campaign and administration but are no longer part of it, including former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

Flynn resigned in February after disclosures that he had lied to administration officials about his contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Current administration officials who have acknowledged contacts with Russian officials include President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as well as Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Priebus is probably the leaker but it would be fantastic if it turned out to be Kushner.

Not really news so much as confirmation–the investigation is not merely going after the “bad apples” who have already been culled, Paul “Never Heard of the Guy” Manafort and Michael “Witch Hunt” Flynn. It’s looking into current senior administration officials.

EDIT: Forgot Carter Page. The list of suspects is already too long. And dangit Frink why you gotta be like that?

After rejecting an offer to testify behind closed doors, Comey has agreed to testify in public to the Senate Intel Committee, after Memorial Day.

Hillary did provide a good example here. When the topic is guaranteed to be so highly politicized, it’s better to do it in public so that the public/media has a reference for distinguishing spin from fact. You do lose the ability to discuss classified matters, however.

The Independent now says the person of interest is Kushner.

EDIT: New York Magazine also backs this up, says four sources confirm (I believe that’s considered “innuendo” by our previous Trump standards). The First Family has been touched. This may well stir up another blind vindictive panic adding to the obstruction tally. The White House is already looking at taking measures that would completely coincidentally shield Kushner (and Manafort) from the Special Counsel.

In non-Russia-related news, the entire healthcare industry is begging the federal government to end the now dire CSR negligence so that the health insurance market doesn’t get upended. I hate to break it to them, but torching the healthcare system wasn’t a negotiating tactic, it was a campaign promise.

Many people are saying it was wonderful that Mrs. Obama refused to wear a scarf in Saudi Arabia, but they were insulted. We have enuf enemies

Let me get this straight, he complains about Mrs. Obama not wearing a scarf in 2015 and now Mrs. Trump isn’t wearing one. Isn’t the definition of hypocrisy? But I’m sure its ok cause I am sure I can fine evidence of the Clintons doing the same thing.

Controversial Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who this week announced he will be joining Donald Trump’s administration as assistant secretary in the Department of Homeland Security, plagiarized sections of his 2013 master’s thesis on US security, a CNN KFile review has found.

Here’s my odds on various things happening (no timeline) after the events of last week.

“Smoking gun”-type indisputable evidence of criminal wrongdoing by senior administration official available to public: 100%
Successful RICO prosecution of senior administration official: 85%
Presidential pardon of senior administration official: 80%
Impeachment of senior administration official: <1%
All mainstream media access to White House revoked: 10%
All mainstream media (including Fox) access to White House revoked: 1%
Dems take the Senate (meaning 51+ seats) in 2018: 0%
Dems take the House in 2018: 0%
Trump average approval rating (Gallup): 36%
Trump re-elected in 2020: 60%
Trump appoints one or more additional Supreme Court justice: 40%

I like the direction the news has been heading too, but there is still quite a hill to climb. I wouldn’t treat this like a done deal at all.
