RotS is Anti-Bush?

Author
Time
I've been reading some news paper articles and watching some shows on TV that are saying RotS is very anti-Bush.

I don't care if it is, since I'm not Republican or Democrat, but I just didn't notice it... Could somebody point out how RotS is anti-Bush? I didn't notice anything that related to that or referenced that... So, I dunno. Maybe it's just the media turning it into something it's not?

Oh God, no, please, let's not bring politics into this movie already... Ask this question on off-topic in a year or so...

I don't want to do this because I feel I'm not "important" enough to do so, but please someone with more time/posts than me, declare this a dead thread...!
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I don't like bringing politics into things like this either, but it was just a question. I've read several articles saying it's against Bush, but I didn't notice anything... Just wondering what people thought about that and how exactly it was against Bush, that's all.

Parts of it definitely stuck me as a comment on the state of the US today, especially Padme's line "So this is how liberty ends... with thunderous applause."

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

The 'Liberty' line and Anakin's line about "If you're not with me then you're my enemy" are the main things that I've read people quoting as being a commentary on our current political situation.

Personally rather than say that ROTS is anti-Bush, I'd prefer to think of it as Bush being *pro-Sith*!

Exactly!

Jesus H Christ people, let's not make this a political thread... It's like saying Dragon Ball Z is pro-Blair, it's ridiculous. Instead of discussing if Palpatine is a liberal or a conservative, discuss politics with political films such as "Bulworth", "All the President's Men", "Fahrenheit 9/11", "Dr. Strangelove"...

LOL... c'mon, ric- it was a joke (at least on my part!)... I'm no fan of politics entering into escapist fiction.

Afterall, that's not what SW is about- if it was, GL would be making movies about boring crap like Senate hearings, blockades, executive powers, votes of no-confidence and.... uh.... wait a minute....

nevermind.

Oh, come on.

It's anti-Kerry because everyone has easy access to firearms in Star Wars. No gun control laws.

There.

And GL obviously has no objection to human cloning...

Speaking purely to be informative and not to continue the politics, greencapt accurately pointed out the couple lines that lead many at the Cannes festival to call the movie anti-Bush.

It should be noted, however, that no matter what Lucas' political leanings are, he has come out and flatly denied it, saying that the movie was written (in the general sense) during the end of the Vietnam War.

I foresee great humor coming out of this thread

(Just so you know, my stance on this is that people read too much into escapist fiction and all of this "anti-bush" crap is exactly that, crap)

So far this thread has been rather ammusing. But since arguing politics on the internet is pointless, I'm not going to contribute. Just keep it up! Or not.

Some funny comics on SW Bush comparisons. Enjoy!

here ya go!
"Drink the Kool-Aid. Wear blinders. Cover your ears. Because that's the only way you can totally enjoy Revenge of the Sith -- the final and most futile attempt from skilled producer, clumsy director and tin-eared writer George Lucas to create a prequel trilogy to match the myth-making spirit of the original Star Wars saga he unleashed twenty-eight years ago. Fan boys, of course, have convinced themselves otherwise. So have several critics, if you go by early reviews."

You left out the line that follows it: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes."

And yeah, calling epIII politically slanted is stupidity at its lowest form.
Don't forget: with Lacuna, you can forget.

If "Revenge of the Sith" truly had a politcal message against the Administration it would have been suppressed.

I absolutely LOVE every comment greecapt has made on this thread. Absolutely hilarious!

Besides, we all know ROTS is supposed to be Anti-Nixon.

I remember reading how AOTC was anti-Bush. Something about similarities between the start of the Clone War and the Iraq War. Like it's already been said, this basic storyline far predates Bush, so I'll agree with Greencapt on Bush being "pro-Sith" and leave it at that.

The fact that Bush maintains a pro-war politic, does not mean that every war movie refers to him.
And if all war movies did refer to him, that would really make him a great personality, which he (history-wise) most definatelly is not.
ROTS tries to make a point on a more general basis, and if the model described in this movie applies to modern politics, it is only because humans create fantasy using their current experienses as their main recource.
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

Or, how about the fact that history repeats itself?

If Bush manages to amend or override the constitution so that he stays in office past noon on January 20, 2009, then this is a discussion worth having. Until then, I think we do have a pretty good constitution that gives the populace the power to keep one person from weilding all the power or from staying in office past his term. I don't even think the Patriot Act granted Bush that kind of authority.

For the record, I do not support President Bush on 90% of his agenda. But a tyrant he isn't.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.
