Did not read the whole Thread bu you are aware of the fact that there

is a German DVB Broadcast in 1080P in x264 Format out?

Quality is much better than on the GKar Set.

You should read the whole thread....it's a very cool project.

Anyways, the x264 format, this is a compressed format like DiVX or xVid?

Yes, x264 is lossy compression

You're right, sorry.

The release i meant does only Feature the Intro from the 97 SE.

Release Name on this is :

Star Wars Episode IV-VI 1977-1983 German DL HDTV 1080p-x264Crew

The Rest is identical to the DVD Version und therefore maybe useless.

Very Fine Broadcast but not the real Deal.

x264 is a very popular library used for compressing to the MPEG-4 AVC format found on Blu-Ray and AVC discs, and a lot of steaming internet media found around these days. Most (if not all?) of the top freeware video encoders tend to use it for AVC encoding, so chances are most people who have encoded anything to AVC have used it, even if they haven't necessarily heard of it.

Bummer.........it doesn't sound like a very effective codec for projects like these.

When encoding for Blu-Ray, AVCHD, or PC containers like MKV or MP4, its really the best solution. Its just an encoder, it doesn't decode any video at all, and its also not a format as it adheres to the H.264/AVC specification.

Its the codec I'd choose for a final encode for everything but MPEG-2.

It's the codec I use for just about everything anymore.

It would explain why AVCHD is a popular in between for DVD & Bluray.  I didn't really understand too much about it ..... thanks for the info folks.

As I'm going to record the 1997 SE AC3 soundtrack from my laserdisc trilogy, I noted that, on the analog channel a mono soundtrack is present.

There are so many discussion about OT soundtracks, but so few about 1997 SE... I wonder if it's only a mono version of the stereo/Dolby Surround track, or a proper *different* mono soundtrack, originally especially mixed for those theaters without surround systems - I feel not the case, as in 1997 there were few theaters without surround sound... well, if the latter is true, it will worth a preservation!

Another thing: soon I'll begin the audio processing of SET; does someone knows if the german, the english UK and the english FR laserdisc soundtracks pitches are correct?

Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash… 😦 | [Fundamental Collection] thread | blog.spoRv.com | fan preservation forum: fanres.com

I would be amazed if there had been a special mono mix for the SE. I thought that the only reason a mono presentation is on the disc at all is due to the AC3 track occupying the right channel on the disc?

It's worth checking out but, as you suspect, its probably either just the left track from the stereo mix, or a simple down-mix to mono. Either way, I doubt it has a lot of significance as, besides discreet channel mapping, all the '97 mixes (or the English ones, at least) should be the same.

Another thing: soon I'll begin the audio processing of SET; does someone knows if the german, the english UK and the english FR laserdisc soundtracks pitches are correct?

I can check the UK set for you tomorrow. ;)

I've mentioned this mono track in the past but no-one took any interest in it so I let it go. I think it's on the Japan set too. I'll check tomorrow.

It "should" be a mono reduction of the matrix stereo. I once accidentally recorded some of it and it sounded like this. Almost all LD analog mono tracks on ac3 releases are straight reductions of the digital tracks.

That said, the ProLogic version is quite good too.

Holy...I've always dreamed of collecting 35mm...I'd do it in a heartbeat if at all possible and there's an IB Diamonds Are Forever too!!! Ahh the agony!

The 35mm would be a good source for the pre BD changes.

Is this still a thing? I’ve spent years looking for a digitized preservation of the 1997 Special Editions as seen in theaters (and VHS and LaserDisc). If this project has been completed, does anyone have a torrent link?

There is this reconstruction of the Special Edition for Episode VI: A New Hope called Harmy’s Star Wars Respecialized Edition which uses the theatrical DTS sound mix.
You can find that here
http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Respecialized-Edition-97-AVCHD-and-MKV-now-out/id/16682

Also, there are rips of the laserdisc releases for the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition that you can find here:

We don’t do torrent links here, sorry. It’s against the rules.

Not true, it’s against the rules to post them in the forum. It’s not against the rules to ask for links in the forum or to receive them via PM.

It’s my thread and I do not have to give out torrent links if I don’t want to.

Was at a screening of the SE. There were some really interesting observations about it, and changes that were not done yet,
and were later changed on the DVD.

At some point a much higher quality version of this is going to be worked on.

Will post details when it gets to that point.

Please do not ask for dates or estimates, there’s a lot being worked on, and this is a lower priority.

Then, perhaps, you should have not mention it in the first place until you, at least, have details about your projects that you can share with us.

I don’t care about dates or estimates, I just want to know what sock you will use when you announce it’s done.
