STAR WARS: THE HUTT GAMBIT – A. C. CRISPIN
PROS
Crispin’s style is very fluid and readable; the story wasn’t boring; Han & co. never came across as out of character; it was nice to see characters from Daley’s books, L. Neil Smith’s Lando trilogy, and the Marvel comics included in the plot.
CONS
The fateful first encounter between Han and Fett was like something out of Robot Chicken; Vader’s cameo was beyond pointless; Soontir Fel’s purpose in the plot was apparently to serve as a reference to the X-Wing comics, as he literally does nothing else in the book; the novel exists just to make a trilogy out of a two-novel story, 'cause at no point in the book does anything of consequence happen – Han doesn’t evolve as a character, nobody important to Han dies/betrays him, etc.
