ROTS: Question about Palpatine/Sidious (SPOILER)

Author

 (Edited)

So when Palpatine is being fried by his own lightning (due to Mace’s saber reflecting it) and his face and voice get all funky, was his physical transformation actually due to the lightning or was he just using the incident to reveal his true Sith form? I realize that from the moment Anakin entered the room he was acting more hurt than he really was (trying to show that the Jedi were power-hungry), but does he let himself get fried in order to achieve this or is he purposefully changing his appearance as it’s happening?

And what’s up with the orange eyes of the Sith? I’m not really a follower of the Expanded Universe (just read Dark Empire and thought it was awful) but I’m curious about this so if anyone knows please enlighten me.

He used the dark side so extreme his body couldn't handel it. It raveged his body that would explain the deformed grotesque face.

I had hoped that he would have just 'revealed' his TRUE form, but on second watch I really think GL was just trying to insinuate that he overloaded on his own lightning and sorta melted. *Perhaps* accounting for the horrible voice warbles he went through in the next few scenes... which I think were changed in post production instead of heve been delivered so poorly like that by Ian McDiarmid.

Perhaps George Lucas is a sith lord and will reveal his true indentity and intiate order 66 wipe out all the star wars fans with his Lucasfilm workers.

No. There is another.
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

ok, but why his body don't change anymore when he's fighting Yoda, which is far stronger than Windu?

Well, he didn't really have all of that energy directed back at him like he did in his fight with Windu.

And did he deform because it was directed back from a lightsaber? Because in Jedi, Luke doesn't get deformed.

But Palps was shooting full-force at Mace, to kill him swiftly. Palps was just playing with Luke. It's not until several minutes later that he says "Now, young Skywalker, you will die."

Remember the story Palpatine told Anakin about ye olde Sith Lord who could manipulate the *cringe* midiclorians. In the face of this story it was pretty clear to me that Sidious must be as old as Yoda if not older and that what was revealed was indeed his true form.

In my book he could not keep up concentrating on his masquerade while using his force lightning (i.e. being overwhelmed by his hatred which he had to hold back and hide for such a long time), while at the same time he was of course trying to depict that mace windu was being responsible for this effect taking place.

When it comes down to the doodeling changy voice and the crappy makeup, I'd rather label that sloppy treatment of the scene which was approved by George Lucas with a "good enough".

I - just like Master Sifo-Dyas - had always the feeling that Palpatine is actually much, much older than... Ian McDarmid in Chancellor's make-up
Remember that Vader used the Dark Side of the Force to remain healthy and even breathe on his own. E3 gives even more clues that Palpy could have far greater powers in this department

If the force lightning damaged Palpy, so that he looks like wreck, he would heal a bit with his immense powers over those 20 years, right? If it was because is sapped his strength, he'd "recharge" himself over the time. So Master Sifo-Dyas' again gives very probable explanation: Palpatine could not keep his masquerade while using his force lightning, the very raw emanation of the Dark Side - thus revealing his true form of deformed aged man, twisted by the evil corrupting him. Later on, as the Emperor, he had no need to cover it up with a mask of a "goodie-goodie senator".

P.S.: Do you believe he was actually hailing from Naboo?
I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

hey anyone have any ideas who master sifo diaz is/was. i been thinking about it what if he was actually darth pladius. master sifo diaz died just b4 ep1 ep1 is when palpi started his little plan.

i dont think pali was as old as yoda how ever i think your right about him changing to his true form, remember in the books hey says, "the face of palpitine has out lived its usefullness, the face of sidius shall now b used" or something to that effect.

This presumes the story is true, when everything else shows that it is not.

I've always thought that Palpatine was so old, his face was all deformed by episode 6 - in which he's what, 100? 110? But I'm ok with transformation scene, although it felt a bit like that guy drinking from the wrong cup in Indiana Jones and the Last Cruzade ("he chose... poorly").
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Sifo-dyas
Si -dious

Remember, Palpatine had been manipulating the entire war from the start (Start the TF after Naboo to force his appointment to Chancellor...manipulating Dooku into starting the separatist movement for a further power grab, etc.).

Where is the stretch to say that HE was Sifo-dyas for the purposes of ordering the creation of the clones? The only reason I don't think he actually is Sifo-dyas himself is that Obi-wan seemed to have some idea of who that was.

Agreed. Sifo-Dyas was a Jedi, so to think that he was a Jedi, and a Sith Master, and a planetary govenor - ALL at the same time (and who was subsequently not recognized by anyone) really defies belief.

That George Lucas, in the absence of any outside influence on his writing (ie editors, producers, etc), actually paid ANY attention to these minor details and wasn't just pulling 'cool' (in his opinion) sounding stuff out of his ass REALLY defies belief!

But there's nothing to indicate that he was the real Sifo-Dyas in the first place.

being that the army was supposedly ordered after Sifo-Dyas died, I always just figured somone (palpatine maybe) just used the name of a well respected Jedi to order the army.

Why Anakin really turned to the dark side:
"Anakin, You're father I am" - Yoda
"No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!" - Anakin
