Can you make a short segment of your AVI available, so we can see what you mean by "the shakes"? Keep in mind that the video, itslef, shakes a little due to telecining from the film (my generated crawl is way too smooth when compared to the original crawl.)

And yes, you don't want to deinterlace - only IVTC.
