The Jedi Starfighter proves that Lucas designed the movie BEFORE he finished the script.

(AOTC)
“Oh hey Doug Chiang, paint an edgy starfighter for the Jedi that resembles an OT Stardestroyer.”

[Months later]
“Oh damn, i need an R2 droid for Ewan so that he can deliver some explanatory dialogue on his way to Kamino … Doug, put the R2 droid somewhere … here. Looks good to me.”

(ROTS)
“Hey Doug, this time paint an edgy starfighter for the Jedi that resembles the illegitimate child of a Tie-Fighter and a Stardestroyer. And hey, i need R2 to eject somehow on General Grievous’ ship. Come up with a lazy solution that will look good to me.”

[Months later]
“Oh damn, how are Anakin & Obi-Wan supposed to pilot these things properly when those extended wings block their view left and right? Pffh, i don’t care … looks good to me.”

  1. edgy doesn’t mean what you seem to think it means
  2. doesn’t your visibility complaint apply to tie fighters even moreso?
  3. is Luke’s expository dialogue to R2 on his way to Dagobah somehow different?
  1. Lucas himself used the word ‘edgy’ during the specific AOTC webdoc that shows the Jedi Starfighter design.

  2. No. When i played the LucasArts PC game TIE-FIGHTER there was nothing blocking my view.

  3. No. But the design of the X-Wing (hence the position of the R2 droid) was done with the script IN MIND - the design of the Jedi Starfighter wasn’t.
