So after having seen various official versions of ANH and Ady’s version many times, I just noticed that Vader’s lines “your powers are weak, old man” and “you should not have come back” during the duel are swapped in Revisited. Was there ever a rationale given for this? The original version had a great pregnant pause on obi-wan’s face after Vader says “you should not have come back”, which is an emotional beat that’s kind of lost in the Revisited version.

I know Obi-Wan igniting first has been brought up before (which I’m also in favor of reverting) but I don’t remember this one being talked about.

I also wasn’t sure as to the justification / reasoning for swapping who has their saber on first. Never had an issue with Vader already having his on as he had already felt Obi-wan’s presence and said as much to Tarkin and was literally waiting for Obi-wan to come along so it made sense for his saber to already be on and Obi-wan to then turn his on being the older, calmer and wiser Jedi that really only turned his on right when he actually meant business and had no need to always have it out and flashing it around as such like young people actually learning swordsmanship tend to do.

Anyway, just a little nit-pick from me. I love Ady’s revisited version of ANH but there are a few changes that seem a bit pointless in the grand scheme of things and sometimes almost counter intuitive to the existing plausibility of the already well established suspension of disbelief that has worked since the movie first screened in the 1970s cinemas. I’m guessing one, because Ady has no doubt gone through the footage frame by frame countless times that the issues / changes likely stand out like a sore thumb to him whereas your general viewer (even avid fans) likely would never notice in the course of simply watching the movie. And two, because it is Ady’s version and what changes he feels are necessary which is completely fine and understandable 😉
