This confirms my suspicions that Portugese is basically Spanish through a filter.

No offense, Ric. You didnt' write the language.

All "romance" languages tend to have similarities that allow you to functionally understand them all if you have a very strong grasp of another. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to imply that fluency in one is fluency in all. But you can pick out words here and there and, on occasion, figure out what is being said based on context.

I'm not fluent in Spanish, but I do have a strong grasp of it. As a result, I've found myself able to piece together stuff being said in Portuguese, French, and Italian. Enough to get by, at least.

I grew up in a town with a heavy Portuguese population (about 30%) and had many Port. friends. I also have many latino friends. The way I understand it, many hispanics have a great deal of difficulty with Portuguese, because of the sounds that are made during pronunciation, and some of the inflections. The reverse seems to be true about Portuguese people: they seem to understand Spanish quite well. A lot also depends on dialect. That is where the weirdness creeps in: most people who speak a particular language, like French, can understand eachother without a lot of work regardless of where they come from. There may be subtle differences, but it's not a huge problem. Canadian French can understand people from France and vise versa. However, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese Chinese seem to be diametrically different.

I love studying languages. For me it's fascinating. I picked up more french in one semester in college than my wife did in 3 years of high school and a year of college. Just have an ear for it, I guess.

I don't mind someone speaking in another language in a private conversation. If I'm not involved in the conversation, then it doesn't matter that I don't understand them. The thing I hate is when someone starts to speak to me in foreign language and after I tell I don't speak that language, they start to speak to me in perfect English. If I go to another country, I don't assume everyone speaks English.

Serious? Heh heh... I was waiting to see what you thought. I've put in my thoughts here and there but not a full review yet. I don't want to sound like a nitpicker... but sure are LOTS of nits!

Another thing which has no meaning and I might add to things I hate: life itself! Don't know if you've been through such a moment in your life in which everything feels so weird, like you life is a movie co-directed by David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick and Federico Fellinni based on a book by Franz Kafka.

Actually, I meant it in relation to your portuguese response in your previous post, so in that case it did make sense. I could have been clearer, but I figured it would suffice. My knowledge of portuguese in spite of my experience with many port people is extremely limited, mostly to greetings and a few other words, along with most of the nasty curse words.

I hate rude comments like this:

Fuck your little complaints.

I hate the fact that the interent encourages people to do that because of the fact no physical or fiscal harm can come to them if they act like a troll over the 'net.

Anonymity is another word for cowardice.

I agree, I really despise it. I've left whole forums within recent months because so many people can't appreciate anything anymore without tearing it all down because it's not "perfect" or "what they want."
Which is the more foolish, the fool (the OT) or the fool who follows (the PT)?

I apologize for that little comment, but I was really pissed at the time. I had someone tell me ROTS was the "worse movie of all time" because of it's "gratuitous violence." I hate Fundamentalist Christians.

Well, I'm actually more likely to say something offensive or stupid on real life than on the internet, because I tend to read what I just wrote, and if I feel it's something stupid, I don't press enter and just delete the whole thing. When you say it, you can't go back, but writing it's a whole different thing. Of course there's the whole thing of being anonymous, but the opinions I've stated on the internet ARE my opinions, and if you ask me something I've said over a forum or a IRC chat, I'll confirm it.

Plus, personally, it's easier for me to write out an idea than it is to speak it. I can formulate and explain it better I guess...

...although "Fuck your little complaints" sounds the same outloud as it does on paper. My apologies again.

I'm almost curious what Jimbo thinks of this film. Since AOTC was "the best film ever made"...what would this make ROTS?

Yes, but some people let minor nitpicks ruin it all.

That's what i said about the LOTR Return of the King, until i saw it on DVD with all the deleted scenes i loved it. So when Nov 2005 comes people will change thei certain "opinion" about Sith

are you kidding? J____ worships anything Lucas makes. He probably loves epIII.

I thought Jimbo wasn't too fond of the SE...

Still, his assessment of AotC was pretty ridiculous. It's as if he didn't even realize ESB existed.

Jedikev the "J____" the stands for another poster who got banned, not you. I have read your posts in the general Star Wars section regarding Lucas and have posted afterwards so you should already know that I have read them. As for wheither or not epIII is a great film, I'd have to see it to judge it and as you know I am boycotting it.
