What I’ll say in respect to the topic is that bad movies can make a lot of money but they don’t have the same staying power as good movies. That’s why TFA grossed more than TPM even when adjusted for inflation.
So I’ll just point out that if you look at the F&F’s films’ box office record, there’s a clear trend there that closely relates to the uptick in quality in the films. If you choose to write off a specific kind of movie just because you think it’s beneath you, that’s your prerogative (I personally can enjoy any type of movie, so long as it’s well made).
But I do wish TFA still had that record…
