Star Wars Insider celebrates the 40th anniversary with... — Page 2

But frevious is not making offhand comments, he’s been remarkably consistent about his insane hyperbole throughout the years.

They’re at least acknowledging that the Special Edition was in fact a revised version of the movies as opposed to THE version. Acknowledging the beginning of the history behind the major changes to the films is actually a step in the direction we want to go.

Yeah. If Disney wanted to bury the OOT, then we shouldn’t have access to a 96kHz copy of Lapti Nek or Yub Nub like we do now

Just having a article on how they put the films in theater again in 1997 doesn’t man they won’t release the originals at some point.

“Haitian slaves in 18th century sugar plantations were treated better than Star Wars fans in the last 20 years.”

Calm down, Lucas

It’s getting to the point where Lucasfilm has sold us just about everything directly related to the original movies except the movies themselves.

To be very Devil’s Advocate about it:

If nice restorations of the original versions are pretty much the only thing they’ve got left to sell us, then yeah, why wouldn’t they wait until the rights to the other five movies are back in their hands?

Again, it’s the carrot and stick approach. Theoretically they can never release the OOT at all, because that’s the only thing the fans want, and Disney knows it.

So, when will the ignore feature be back? I am so goddamn tired of frevious’ shit.

I don’t think they care. The SE releases were a huge success every time they were released, despite no OOT. The new films are way more profitable than any OOT release will ever be. They don’t need the OOT. The group of older fans are dwindling. We’re going extinct.

Dear Disney,
If you’re just waiting for us older fans to drop dead, kindly let us know. Thanks!

There’s only one person here who can answer that and he posts infrequently.

Who decided in 1997 to PERMANENTLY TAKE AWAY the original versions?

I would’ve been a less unhinged person if Lucas didn’t project his irrational hatred onto his fans, the ONLY REASON he isn’t working on his father’s almond ranch for minimum wage.

Did we EVER deserve this abuse?

I think you lost all credibility for at least this thread for comparing sw fans to slaves.

We’re being treated like ones by Lucasfilm ever since '97. All we ever fucking wanted was the original versions. We have filed TWO petitions on this site, and yet they fell on deaf ears.

I want a restored official OUT release as much as the next guy but yeah the slavery comparison wasn’t necessary.

And I thought the Lucas ***** my childhood crap was embarrassing.

LOL.

Okay so back to reality, I find it worrying that the headline says “triumphant return”. Meaning they think it ever returned. This with SE scenes being in the latest EA moneyspinner signals two instances where they have ignored there is such a new version, and would rather just forget the OOT.
I wonder how the article itself will describe the 1997 re-release…

Agreed. The fans made him rich and in return we ask (shouldn’t have to) for little in return; just the original versions restored and released on the current home video format.

It’s too bad STAR WARS fans are a fractured bunch and aren’t hive-minded like the Borg, we’d all vote with our wallets and get the originals quick smart. F**k Disney/Lucasfilm.

People are willing to drop hundreds of dollars on bootlegs and those s#### DVDs from 2006. Those DVDs that Lucas himself felt compelled to release. Millions of people have downloaded the Despecialized Edition. Popular American icons have publicly let their distaste of the SE known. Disney may not care for those versions of those films, but they care about money. You will never convince me that only a fringe want the OOT. The demand is there.
