Spoke to the projectionist at #SWCO and confirmed that these are the same 2K DCPs used for the OT Blu-rays. No 4K (except for Rogue One).

I seriously question just how confidently the Orlando projectionist can actually state which master the dcp is derived from.

Again, let’s not forget Tack’s report on one of the roadshow screenings last summer. I’d be more interested in how the image actually looks in terms of color, contrast, grain, et cetera.

Also, the 2004 masters (the same ones used for the blu-ray) weren’t even done at full 2k resolution. They’re 1920x1080 hd. The Lowry guys were very specific about that during a press conference for the dvd way back in '04.

Anyway, I wonder if we can find out from an attendee in Orlando how the picture actually looks. Of course it would have to be someone who actually knows all the color timing quirks of the '04 master like we do, and I doubt there are many fans there who do.

Empire and Jedi are tonight.

God, would the Blu-rays even hold up being projected in a theater?

What, a man builds a giant mound of dirt in his house and you aren’t entertained?

From what we’ve heard of the marathon I-VI multiplex screenings the day before TFA was released, the lowry master most definitely doesn’t hold up when projected onto a large movie theater screen.

I mean, we know that the SEs have been cleaned and restored in 4K by RMW yet they weren’t able to show them at Celebration. Perhaps a surprise Blu-Ray set is coming?

My friend confirmed the 2011 changes. If a 4K exists, it wasn’t there.

Great way to honor the 40th anniversary, with a 2011 version of the movie.

That’s Disney for you. Worst of the worst.

They use bad noise reduction in their animated features and they censor content that could possibly be construed as racist. Disney isn’t the greatest for sure.

And they haven’t released a 2D animated film in almost a decade.

Strike four and they’re out.

Didn’t they called it quits after Princess and the Frog? Which is a damn shame as that movie looked amazing.

Looked amazing, but had a hum-drum storyline and received halfassed marketing. Of course, they go and pin the blame on the medium and use that as an excuse not to make anymore 2D films.

Disney is run by putzes.

Indeed. Funnily, my biggest gripe about Disney isn’t even about their movies or Star Wars, but it’s parks. Disney seems to have completely forgotten the idea and vision behind EPCOT’s Future World, and it’s a hollow shell of it’s former self. They genuinely have no clue how to properly handle anything with an ounce of good in it.

If you ask me, the degradation of EPCOT has less to do with Disney’s managing style and more to do with the forward-thinking, technocratic attitudes of the 50’s and 60’s having been replaced with left-wing attitudes like hyper environmentalism, social programs for the dumb and lazy, and political correctness at any cost.

It’s most likely they have the OUT in 4K cause there scanning mostly everything in the Lucasfilm archieves either 2k,4K or both they may make 2 scans of everything one in 2K and the other in 4K and in those scans there are most likely a 4k and 2k Unaltered cut of Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi.

Did he say it was the OUT or the SE’s

these are the same 2K DCPs used for the OT Blu-rays.

(I think it’s clear it’s the 2011 SE)

I think it is the OUT what is the point of restoring the SE if there in high quality so obviously it is the OUT

You can think what you want but the correct answer has already been spelled out multiple times.
