Why not? I hear it’s a hack of an atari game.
Stills are posted from the original sample video files mentioned earlier. These were shown at industry shows, and to other vendors in the video restoration field. The source files I have are 1080p, which were scaled down from 4k. Of course, to protect the sources, they will remain anonymous.
The source clips in the Vimeo link are from the same source, with the same scenes. However, they did not post the Grain comparison clips.
All clips are WIP. Whether they finished them or not is unknown.
Most mentions of the SE, and since then refer to a private Technicolor print used by Lucasfilm.

In fact, it was a private print lent to them for use in color reference.
The current 4k Technicolor scans are being used in private projects, one of which was started on OT,
but the thread is locked, and moved to a private forum. All these projects are hybrids of multiple sources
used to overcome the shortcomings of just one print.

Neat to hear ‘Sith’ used in the original film.

OMG that’s brilliant! Why the hell don’t they release it? Instead they’re just messing with us! BTW is this the first time we have ever heard the word “Sith” in the original trilogy?

So, is this (part of) the archive material they’re scanning at LucasFilm?
Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

What panel is that? And it better be released at latter date like they did with many other panels that don’t make it on the livestream.
I’m going crazy over those clips, it’s so amazing to see all this new footage.

This is common knowledge from here:

You could’ve just made this clear originally instead of referring to a restoration using a Technicolor print.
And yeah, these archival clips are neato. 😃

I don’t know what negative1 is referring to, but I know of at least one non-MVerta, non-“Team Negative1” Technicolor-sourced restoration underway.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.
I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

It’s astounding that a line about a sith Lord being sent by the emperor was never thrown back into any of the Special Editions.

I don’t know what negative1 is referring to
We should just all put this in our signatures.
Also, welcome back!

That was my first thought as well. Due to the quality, it’s hard to tell if this is the actual dialogue from the movie (obviously, I don’t mean Vader), but most of the film was redubbed/ADR’ed, so I’m not sure. It’s possible that the line doesn’t exist in good enough form.
It also seems that much of the unused film had not been combed through until Gareth recently started hunting for things, so it’s possible this was under the radar for years?

Well, there was that user on the blu-ray.com forums who claimed Disney is currently in the process of scanning in every last piece of Star Wars related film material.
That may very well have been how those unused takes were brought to Edwards’ attention.

True. Not sure which came first.
Regardless of any immediate plans to release the OOT, I certainly hope they are taking steps to preserve absolutely everything.
It was in the books that accompanied their releases. And so was the name Palpatine. I have the original novel that came out sometime in 77 and in the prologue it talks about
Palpatine (by name) being the emperor and Sith Lord, so if you read that you already knew who the emperor was in TPM

I’ve had in my possession for years now a used copy of what I’m fairly certain is the very first printing of the Star Wars novelization and I’ve never gotten around to actually reading it. Is Palpatine actually referred to as a Sith? I thought that word was only used in reference to Darth Vader.
In the novelization, Palpatine is just a politician who ends up becoming a powerless figurehead. There’s nothing Force-ful about him within the prologue.
Okay, then I guess the only connection to TPM would be knowing his name is Palpatine. I knew that as well, but from the Essential Guide to Characters (unless the Glove of Darth Vader books had already brought that up but I can’t remember now if he’s actually referred to by name in that series).

It’s been a long time since I’ve read it and I’d have to dig it out, bit I have the original paper back pressing and I’m almost sure in the edition I have it calls him a Sith. I’ll see if I can find it.
JEDIT: Duracell is right. Although it does refer to him as “The emperor”, so his identity is still revealed for the phantom menace. I’m pretty sure the book uses the word Sith somewhere though.

Do they even have 4K masters of the OT blu-rays? If not, I guess they’re going to go back to the negatives, but those are conformed to the SE, right? Which means, they either try to restore the OOT or they do a new SE based on the old SE: a Special Special Edition or something? 😄
