4K release of Star Wars in theaters July 28th (95% chance)
3D release of Star Wars in theaters July 28th (4% chance)
Any announcement regarding the Unaltered Original Trilogy (1% chance)
The July 28th rumor probably has nothing to do with Star Wars.
I’m starting to think I-VI will never be widely re-released theatrically, at least not like the SE was in '97. There are twice as many movies now for one thing, not an easy thing to do on the scale of the '97 release, especially in today’s world.
We’ve already seen things like the roadshow last summer. It really wouldn’t surprise me if they finish converting the OT to 3D in the next year or so. They could show it at conventions as they have the dimensionalized prequels. Also, if there are going to be any I-VIII in-theater marathons on December 15th and Disney once again insists on showing TFA and TLJ in 3D, they would finally have a complete 3D version of I-VI to show as well. I could really see people going for that two years from now during all the hype of what will be “the last movie of the Skywalker saga.”
