I'm 31....(old fan), saw the original's in the cinema & loved them...still do.....I bought the spec edition dvd set because i wanted star wars on dvd...i stil lwatch the video's when i want to remind myself that Han was cool (once) other than that I'm like the majority of people out there......just glad to have Star Wars to blast out at some obsene level.......I would prefer to have the unaltered versions on dvd but have conceeded that this will only happen when georgie boy has directed/produced some more turkeys & wants a quick cash handout....
I saw Ep1 on its release, I think it was on my 26th birthday.....my first reaction was one of joy.......except for the "poo-doo" jokes & jar-jar the irritant.....
i went to see that film expecting a movie "for kids" & got exactly that....yet..........the OT was NOT directly aimed at kids...ok its pretty easy going & contains popcorn comic book violence but it maintained a level of maturity that young kids WOULDNOT understand or comprehend.......
yet....the PT contains LENGTHY dialogue concerning politics, the fate of the galaxy & philosophical debate on the nature of life, the universe & everything.......
HOW CAN THIS BE CONSIDERED MATERIAL SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN???
I think this is the issue that really irks me....on the one hand there is over the top muppet show style antics & jokes yet on the other there is something akin to Shakespearian tragedy.....how can children absorb & understand this???
I think the real problem is GL tried to make a trilogy to entice a new generation of fans whilst attempting to cater for the older fans.....unfortuantely when mixing these 2 contrasting elements the result is a confused mess that can't succesfully appeal to either demographic...IMO
