Idk, I always found reading novelizations to be just a part of exploring the story of a movie. I feel like shooting myself for constantly bringing up Trek, but the since novelizations of Trek films were based more off earlier scripts, they contained more info and goodies than what was left in the final films. Also, The Final Frontier’s adaptation practically saved that burning wreck of a film for me. Reading it plants more ideas, concepts, and details in your head so re-watching the film with the added knowledge just adds to the experience.
