In response to Darth Belan, I ask him to read the very good post above by Anakin’s Mannequin.

Imagine this: a boxed DVD set of the original trilogy. In each case comes three discs: one of the original version, one of the 1997 version, and one of the 2004 version.

I would be very happy with that. He does have the right to edit his movies.

So think of this as though it was an “SE” of the prequel, available alongside the original version. The primary difference is that I believe that this will far surpass the original version (like George did, only I think he was wrong). Part of this editing is to age the film, the opposite goal of the SE.

So I think the point is that although some of us on this board may hate the SE, we don’t have a problem with the fact that it exists and that it is available. Our problem is that the OOT is not.

But the semi-original prequels ARE available, so I don’t see a problem with my edit. I admit that I’m getting a lot more creative in the editing than George ever did, but then again, I never criticized his editing specifically, if we weren’t stuck with it forever.

That being said, a lot of people don't like the remakes of the OT, or the prequels. And some of these people that feel this way have made re-edits for the first two prequels to sort of put in the image the way they thought it should have been.

Right.

So what if the acting is a little lame or weak, NEWS FLASH....the acting has been weak in all the movies.

But not anywhere near this weak. Compare romantic scenes between Han/Leia and Anakin/Padme. You can't tell me that they were anywhere close to being on the same acting level. So what? I started this edit because I cannot stand Ep. II in its current state. I don't know if MagnoliaFan liked the prequels to begin with, but I really can't stand them. I was raised on the OT. So my edit will turn out quite differently from his, I think.

So when Padme challenges Anakin to come with her to save Obi Wan, I wonder if it can become a kind of "awakening of the Force" scene. If Anakin can begin the scene, receiving Obi-Wan's message in a very down and defeated frame of mind (i.e. with sad music) -- a frame of mind which Padme pushes him out of. I think this could happen if she simply starts leaving to save Obi Wan without Anakin stopping her to discussing it as he does now. Their discussion has to happen differently. Anakin can listen as she says "He gave you strict orders to protect me and I'm going to save Obi Wan..." Then lay in some of the Force music before he smiles or get out of there without him smiling or...

That's a good idea. I've actually talked about heavily editing this scene earlier in the thread, because I can't stomach it in its current state. I'll think about it and talk about it a little later.

Other than that point, this edit fits beautifully as a set up for Ep III.

Oh boy! So you have seen ROTS! I'm seeing it opening night on Thursday. That's very encouraging though!

BTW, Ep III has visual design and sound cues for the dream you're trying to construct of Anakin seeing Shmi tied up. This is one change that will make Ep II and Ep III fit together better in quite a few ways.

Great! The only problem being that I have to wait until November to get that footage. Sounds like it's worth it, though.
