People don’t laugh at tasteless jokes? There are comedians who’ve made a career out of that.
No, but the article presents Allen’s comment as if it were his serious opinion, when it’s clearly not.

Tim Allen, a rather irrelevant actor, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, where he bemoaned the tribulations suffered by conservatives in Hollywood. “You gotta be real careful around here,” he told Kimmel. “You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody else believes. This is like ‘30s Germany.”
Nope! Not even close!
He was obviously not serious.
He’s a comedian, it was a joke, and the audience laughed with him because it was obviously a joke.
He was joking? No way!
Doesn’t change the stupidity of what he said. Not that I honestly care, but come on Tim. The article’s fine.

It’s just strange to me to call a comment, that was intended to be a comedic exaggeration, stupid.

Exaggeration does not equal comedy. The sooner people learn this the better, it’s one of the big problems with dumb shits on the internet right now.
Allen’s biggest offense here is not being funny, and his second offense is making a comparison which was misguided whether it was intended to be humorous or not.
Invoking one of the darkest chapters of the 20th century is fraught with peril, unless you’re Mel Brooks. 😉
Where were you in '77?
Well the key to is to actually properly form a joke that works with the right context. Just saying that you’re experiencing what it’s like being in the Holocaust is not that.
You don’t have to be Mel Brooks, you just need common sense.
Ok fine, Jezebel sucks. Here’s the Fox News story.
Oh wait, they didn’t say he was joking either.

Comedy is perhaps the most subjective thing in the world, and there are plenty that disagree with you. What comedy is is not for you or I to decide.
And here’s The Blaze.
Not only was there no mention of joking, he’s getting praised for taking on the damn liberals!

Fair enough, but this is a step or two away from someone yelling “Jews!” and thinking that constitutes a joke.
I don’t deny he thought he was making a joke, but people have to realize just because you’re making a “joke” doesn’t shield you from criticism.

Never thought I’d be defending Fox News. Anyway, the Fox News article is presented very matter-of-factly, it doesn’t lampoon him for his comments, it simply presents what he said.
Also, the answer to someone saying a source is biased isn’t presenting a source biased in the other direction. Fox News, The Blaze and Jezebel all suck.
The better comparison would have been McCarthyism, honestly, but it’s not like he’s trying to pass himself off as an unbiased news source or running for office.
I don’t need to go into the reasons Fox News sucks. But at least that specific article doesn’t go off on tangents.
But they didn’t point out he was making a joke! How can that be matter-of-fact if they left out that important point?
I never said Jezebel isn’t biased. That bias does not change what he said, any more than Fox News’ or Blaze’s bias changes what he said.
Jezebel just happened to be the first one I saw reporting on it.

Which explains all the horrid parody movies of the past 17 years. 😉

It’s not something that needs to be pointed out, it can be learned by watching the full clip. My issue isn’t that the Jezebel article didn’t point out that it was a joke, it’s that the author attacked him as if it were his true opinion. I don’t want to be the guy that screams “you’re taking him out of context!” but I believe that’s what happened here. They took his comment out of context and attacked him for it.

I mean, if you’re trying to discredit what I and Jeebus are saying by presenting another shitty news source, go ahead, but I don’t think saying Jezebel sucks means that Fox News must be any better.
Really? So now inoffensive jokes are an indictment of a man’s character? This is such bullshit.
The Person in Question
I’m seeing a ton of people on twitter and facebook framing it as though Tim Allen actually believes he’s in as bad of a position as Jews during the Holocaust, which is appalling dishonesty.
The Person in Question
Well, jokes tend to be offensive depending on who looks at it by their very nature, and I don’t think any comparison to Nazi Germany could be said to be completely inoffensive, but I don’t think it was malicious.

I don’t think they took anything out of context. Whether it was a joke or not doesn’t affect the criticism. Nobody believes he literally meant that. But he wouldn’t have said it if he didn’t mean it figuratively. And that’s what they’re criticizing. The comparison is absurd whether it’s a joke or not.

Comey says absolutely nothing while being questioned except for “I cannot answer that.” We don’t no anymore than we did before so how is the Russian Spy narrative even considered factual and headline material?
I just don’t know.
And for the record, I don’t think Tim Allen is a bad person. But it was a bloody stupid thing to say.
Where were you in '77?
This is going to be one hell of a ride.
