original trilogy - why do you care so much?

I’m sure there has been a thread like this before, but why do you guys care so much about lucas releasing the original trilogy? The changes he made were good and bad, but overal, they don’t effect the movie that much. The movies are still good with the changes. George Lucas is a creative director. He is a perfectionist, but if he wasn’t the star wars movies necer would have been good tin the first place. If you can’t enjoy the movies with the changes he made, then you need to go on ebay and buy the originals.

That said, no offense to anyone.

I'm going to not reply to the topic at hand and say that no we don't have to go to eBay and purchase these things from those trying to rip us off. If you just look around, you can get it all for next to nothing.

We have a Theatrical Cut vs Original Edition section of this forum for a reason.

There's an entire forum devoted to this sort of thing, and it's been quite thoroulgy discussed to death while beating a horse so dead it is naught but a skeleton.

Just do what I did and buy the DVDs and be happy...

Actually I've got my LaserDiscs, too, so I'm only 1/2 traitor.

Hey I want the OT for for that childhood frosty side of me. But the wheaty side says to also wait and pick up the super deluxe attempted continuity HD-3D DVD box set of all six films that'll come out when we all have HD-3D TV's in our homes.

Rather than go on berating this guy for asking a noob question I will give you my 2 cents. (although the others are right this should in another forum all together)

…anyway. I think I speak for about everyone when I say the only reason we want the OT so badly is because the whole time we grew up we watched the same beat up VHS copies over and over and over again. Now with this new technology and a chance to get the best picture and sound possible out of the movies we have always loved, we can’t. We HAVE to get this new hybrid of old and new.

Without getting into a debate about old vs. new for the umpteenth time I’ll tell you we just want to see the movie we grew up watching.

The movies we know every nuance of to a T.

The movies that, for most of us, changed our lives.

At the root of this…

We want the movies we remember as kids.

That’s it. Plain and simple.

Well that's the main reason anyway.

I actually was raised on a pan-n-scan VHS copy of the '97 Special Edition trilogy.

But you may ask, "well then why the hell do you want the original versions if you weren't even raised on them??"

And I say, because they are better! The special editions SUCK!
It seems like I'm the opposite of most. Instead of growing up with originals but preferring the SEs, I grew up with the SEs and prefer the originals!

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
