As long as the picture quality looks better and the color timing is more accurate, that’d be something to me
It would be a very small crumb of comfort indeed…but yeah, even if the 4k release merely turns out to be the 2011 Special Edition, if new viewers have to settle for GL’s current ‘definitive’ version to watch, then I’d rather it’s colour-timing was improved for them overall.
I know I’m a picky bugger when it comes to my Star Wars tastes, but right from the opening scenes of the ‘A New Hope’ Special Edition (both 2011 and 2004 versions), I immediately knew something seemed very wrong to me…and it was to do with the LACK of ‘laserbolt’ colour during the very first shot as the Tantive IV exchanges fire with the Stardestroyer - it’s currently a poor, wishy washy effort compared to the VIBRANT red and green opening exchange I’d always been used to in previous releases.
It might be a trivial thing to some, but it’s a detail that has always marred that vital opening shot for me where the so-called ‘Special Edition’ is concerned. Here’s a comparison to see what I mean -

…Not that I will ever be watching the official ‘Special Edition’ again, no matter HOW MUCH the picture is upgraded…as adywan (like Harmy) has thankfully brought the opening exchange back to a superior vibrancy for me, where the red lasers are actually RED, and the green lasers are actually GREEN! 😃 -

Well I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that any new release of the special edition is unwelcome at this point, so long as the OOT is not available commercially and in high quality.
Well I can’t speak for others, but any continued re-release of the ‘Special Editions’ which helps to perpetuate them as being the ‘de facto’ versions over the originals, certainly grinds MY gears!
I have always believed the Special Editions should have been a bonus feature, nice to watch a few times here and there, but the original films should be the ones that have gotten the HD treatment they deserve.
^ THIS, dammit!!
