this is some of the most beautiful cover work i have seen, i love it.

i am curious as to your technique for making the box. i am planning on making my own box for each of the trilogies and i would love any and all insight you could lend.

thanx

Use a large inkjet printer and 13 x 19 paper for the slipcases, as heavy a paper stock as your printer will accept.

Not sure if you’re taking requests, but I would love a set of your amazing covers for the Fall of the Jedi prequel edits.

Hello ronwlim, as far as large inkjet printers go would a Canon iP8720 or Epson Artisan 1430 suffice? These are two large format printers I’ve found that seem to have good reviews, but also more importantly include cd/dvd/bluray printing.

I don’t have much experience with Epsons. My friend who printed mine uses the CANON PIXMA iX6820 Wireless Printer, which for some reason has dropped to $120 on Amazon US…

Thanks for the response. Do you know what type of 13x19 stock/lb paper your friend used for printing out your slipcase?

Canon matte photo paper, but the heavier the stock, the better. Get the heaviest that will feed through.

I am exploring an ever BETTER box for my despecialized box set. Not the bonus stuff like the mini-posters and mini lobby cards, but the individual bluray cases and the box itself.

After some trial and error, I think Star Wars Despecialized box set 2.0 is almost ready. But before I tackle that, I thought I’d try my hand at another film series…

INDIANA JONES

Here’s the video that inspired me:
https://youtu.be/j3QvlNLE0Iw

Using that video as a guide, I started building my Indy box. Here are the results. Think it came out pretty good… I just need to find some glossy sticker paper so the cover inks look more vibrant. Materials list and download links coming soon. I will not be posting a tutorial on how to build the box; the video above should be enough.

Looks awesome! I’d definitely swap this with the Indy 4 film collection that was released a few years back. I love that book style set, but the box isn’t exactly durable. It’s pretty dinged up at this point.

Awesome stuff!

That same youtube video has inspired me to make a clone of the LOTR Extended Edition BR set box for my NJVC collection.

The same basics as that video, plus the outside cover with magnetic catch. I’m just beginning to work out the design/build, but hope to share it when I get it completed.

Thanks man, now it’s a matter of trial and error for my own project. And as has been said, awesome work and thanks for sharing it.

So how exactly are you making the boxes themselves sturdy? Me friend and I just made two of your Star Wars boxes but the slip cases that the blu-ray cases go in are very very thin and fragile and honestly I’m afraid I’m going to break them. So for the Indiana Jones one how did you make it so sturdy?

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

I use a thick cardboard stock called Chipboard. Got some 12x12 black pieces through Amazon. It’s a little over 1mm thick. I cut pieces to size and use paper tape to construct the initial box. I then print the artwork onto photo paper, cut, and use a spray adhesive to attach it to the chipboard box. I’m sure others have a different process, but this works for me.

Won’t this process leave white edges from the paper of your finished box is all black?

Do you have a link to the product page on Amazon. After looking locally, I think I am going to have to go with Amazon for ordering chipboard for my boxes.

Thanks

Because I’m a perfectionist and you are right that it would leave white edges, I carefully use a black marker to color the paper edges 😃.

As am I! I am working on my own custom box using the “Make” method with spray adhesive. Does the masking tape cause any issues when gluing the actual art on the box?

I used paper tape so I’ve had no issues.

I was thinking of using super glue to glue the chipboard together to make the box, then wrapping the artwork around it. This way I will avoid any issues with the art sticking to the tape or there being a visible area where the tape is.

I think they were TDKs, but I recently re-ordered and got some Verbatim discs.
