I’m super suspicious of this.

And if it is true, there’s no way it doesn’t end up on Blu as well.

Then again, if it was only digital then Disney would get 100% of the profit on Empire and Jedi.

Yeah, 100% of the substantially smaller profits.

True, and it would piss off a lot of people to release such a long-sought-after item as a digital-only release.

Celebration 2017 Starts
Kathleen Kennedy walks on stage and says "About the theatrical cuts"
Audience goes nuts
She continues "The original versions of the films you love"
Audience gets even louder with a couple of people shrieking audibly louder than everyone else
"Are NEVER going to be released"
Drops the microphone and walks off stage
Audience is silent
Audience CHEERS with claps and tears
Celebration 2017 ends and everyone goes home
Collider recaps Celebration 2017 and talks about how they all stood up and clapped and cried over Kennedy’s announcement

YOU JUST KEEP HITTING THE FUCKING HOME RUNS DISNEY!!!

I work for an online retailer, and I run into mislabled products all the time.

Text and images are added separately, very often the incorrect text can be added to an image, or the other way round.

There is a department responsible for listings, but they just upload the info in bulk, which gives rise to errors.

From my experience I would ignore this as anything but a mistake, and it’s not precursor to a new release.

Separate to the Amazon listings, let’s see if there is an announcement at celebration.

I am proud to say I remember the 80’s!

Yup, just under six weeks until the “suprise,” whatever it is, gets unveiled at Celebration.

Fun. I enjoy speculating this stuff.

I don’t want to sound rude, because I really like Bill Hunt, but I don’t get what authority he has regarding this. He seems convinced that it won’t happen this year because of the “news” about the negative being conformed, which I thought that we knew since 2006, but he’s also assuming that no work has been done on that.

How rude!

But yeah, what he claims as evidence for his thesis is entirely un-convincing.

This was also the guy that said we had a high chance of getting the prequels on 3D Blu-Ray
Whatever. We’re just humans after all. Not perfect. Not capable of predicting things 100% of the time.

He even explained how they could’ve restored the prints just by scanning the snippings and digitally re inserting them into the films. You’d think with that kind of knowledge, you’d be skeptical whether or not that has happened.

He’s seems to think that the people his guy asked would’ve told him that they’re in the process of restoring them, which wouldn’t happen.

Maybe he’s purposely hiding information? For the surprise at Celebration 2017? Hmmmm…
Would he really wanna be the guy to ruin that kind of thing…

By he do you mean Bill? He’d never do that. If by he you mean the guys from Fox/Disney at the presentation, of course. If it’s happening, there’s no doubt a gag order.

Has Bill spoiled things in the past though?

Reporting on this kind of stuff is his job. It’s not really spoiling. It’s just news. Not like he’s spoiling the plot of a yet to be released movie.

I remember hearing "The reason why the OOT wasn’t released in 2015 or '16 was because Star Wars needed more work done"
Anyone else remember hearing this? And did anyone find evidence supporting this theory or is this just internet nonsense

moviefreakmind mentioned hearing that from what he considers to be a reputable source on the Steve Hoffman forums.

Do you think this contradicts Robert Harris claim of the films being in pristine shape? If they were in pristine shape, then why does Star Wars need work done on it? Hmm

I don’t think he said they were in pristine shape, just that it wouldn’t be difficult/impossible to do. Doesn’t mean that they didn’t have to track down some second generation sources etc. to finish star wars. Who knows, maybe something was damaged or misplaced when the negative was recut in 1997.

That’s right. He just says that it is possible to restore and isn’t in danger of being lost. No one doubts that Star Wars will need a lot of work and money to restore it from the negative if that’s what they decide to do.

So we know that the clippings have been kept and maintained. This has been officially confirmed. We know John Landis, a close friend of Lucas, said that the original versions of Star Wars are coming (didn’t say when though). We know that Disney isn’t afraid to release OOT related merch (The Digital/Vinyl Collection) and sure there’s a difference between releasing music and films but under George’s rule the last OOT soundtrack was released in '93 and we didn’t get them again until 2015 three years after Disney acquired Star Wars. I’m more hopeful than ever that the OOT is coming soon…

That was just people making up bullshit. They were sure it would come out then, so when it didn’t, make up bullshit excuse A. Now it’s just around the corner again…and on and on.

Disney has no plans to release the OOT. None.

Also, Robert Harris last posted about Star Wars on another forum in December. While he did not say anything specific, one could gather in an indirect way from his post that no OOT restoration is underway, or at least not one that he is aware of.

It’s possible that one could be completed and he simply does not know about it, but I really doubt that would be the case.

Oh, that’s right. I forgot that you work for Disney and know all this shit. Oh wait, you don’t. Maybe you should stop making up bullshit.
