There is literally no evidence to suggest that the OOT has been restored or will ever be released by Disney. None.

There is also literally (and lol at someone who has to keep using that word to try and make his point) no evidence to suggest it won’t ever be released by Disney. None.

You are both right. But unfortunately this thread somehow still has 130+ pages.

Maybe they can release the movies on a D-VHS tape.

I still have every VHS tape we’ve ever owned, except the few that were eaten up, I don’t understand why people get rid of them.

Because it’s an inferior format that takes up significant amount of room and degrades every time you watch them. I will be happy when all of my non-Star Wars tapes are gone.

Glad to see you still carrying that water for Disney. Please don’t ever change.

Should the OOT ever be restored and released I don’t know what I’ll find more exciting. The fact that all the years of begging finally paid off or the stunned and speechless reactions of those who presently insist it will never happen.

It would be an absolute joy to see egg on the faces of the scum who want the originals to stay buried.

The “George’s Vision” fans are will no longer be of any concern to us. I have just received word that Kennedy has announced the OOT personally. The last remnants of The Tragedy of Darth Vader have been swept away.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

I modified a Tarkin quote from Star Wars. Shame on you for not seeing it.

This “surprise” they’re teasing for the Celebration Orlando panel is either the announcement of a restored OOT or something entirely unrelated to a re-release of the movies, SE or otherwise.

An announcement of a 4k-restored SE - and nothing more - would be met with a big huge “who cares?”

By us, sure. But I assume there are 4k enthusiasts out there who don’t care about the OOT.

That’s what I’m banking on.

Yes, but the people buying and watching in 4k only make up a small percentage right now. I’m future-proofing my bd purchases, but none of my hardware is 4k yet.

When George casually mentioned at the 2010 convention that the blu-rays were hitting the next year it was met with a huge response from the audience because we were already four years into that format. We just crossed the one year mark for UHD this week.

The demographic buying UHD Blu-rays are film enthusiasts first-and-foremost, at least at this point in its lifecycle, and most likely upwards of 30 years of age given how the average cost of a single UHD Blu-ray is around $40, so folks who grew up with the OOT. I don’t think a 4k SE would be met with much enthusiasm at this point. At least this is my assumption.

Fox kept the original clippings of the OOT all these years and Mike Verta was requested to have a meeting by officials that were interested in his restoration… but none of this indicates anything.

You’re right, it means nothing. From the mid-1990s until 2017, Fox has had the original cut frames in their possession, and in all 20-something of those years, the OOT was never restored and never released. And as far as anyone knows, absolutely nothing came of Mike Verta’s meeting.

But you don’t know anything. I don’t say that to be rude, I don’t know anything about Verta’s meeting either, but for all anyone knows a ton of awesome stuff came of his meeting. Also, Fox isn’t and was never going to pay for a restoration of Lucasfilm’s property just to distribute it on home media. They did for the SW Special Edition because at the time they owned the copyright and they were distributing it theatrically along with the soon to be released prequels.

There is literally no evidence to suggest that the OOT has been restored or will ever be released by Disney. None.

There is some evidence. It might not be concrete, but it’s still evidence. For example, there’s credible word that Disney/Lucasfilm requested a scan of the Library of Congress’s film print of Star Wars. There are also at least three different people that I’ve interacted with online that claim it’s happening this year; they may all be wrong, that’s completely possible, but it’s still evidence, even if it’s hearsay.

Especially since 40% of it, because of the CGI, would be uprezzed.

That also.

A UHD release of the SE would only be of interest to 4K enthusiasts. They would buy it hand over fist knowing it still doesn’t have the original versions, and then only for purposes of seeing what it looked like on their 4k tv.

A UHD release of the unaltereds, on the other hand, would actually help move 4k hardware.

My point all along. Anyone who thinks they know what’s going on, pro- or anti-release, is fooling themselves.

They said there’ll be multiple surprises.

Three 4k SE discs.

The 1997,2004 and 2011 cut. What a release that would be.

I think he meant Star Wars, Empire and Jedi. And your scenario would never happen. Unless there is an OUT, a multi-version release is inconceivable. Even if we get the OUT, having multiple SE cuts seems unlikely.

I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.
