Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray? — Page 27

I have a feeling this is a big mistaken leak on Amazon’s part. I won’t complain if we get the OOT obviously, but I do hope that it’s available on blu ray and not solely on digital.

Highly doubt it would be stream only given the nature of the fan base for that particular cut.

I mean, I’m not getting any hopes up at all (I’m seriously, we’re talking about a fucking Amazon listing), but it does seem like such an oddly specific mistake to make (and an update to the listing, at that). So who knows.

Any chance it might just end up being a streaming GOUT?

That’s what I was wondering.

This reminds me of how people got all excited to see Star Trek: The Motion Picture’s director’s cut up on one of the streaming/download sites only to find out it was simply the dvd master. Same thing happened with Undiscovered Country IIRC.

The URL has also been altered as well

I doubt that they would just slap the GOUT transfer on Amazon because it would be very low quality. In Lucas’s mind, the low quality was justified because it was an oddity on a bonus disc, but as a product being sold specifically, it wouldn’t cut it. The whole reason there’s a demand for the OOT is because the GOUT was so subpar.

I’m super suspicious of this.

And if it is true, there’s no way it doesn’t end up on Blu as well.

Very true.

In the examples of the Star Trek: TMP and TUC director’s cuts, those were at least from 16:9 480p masters, unlike the GOUT.

Right, they were typical standard definition transfers.

If this turns out to be true, what’s weird is that the lid keeps getting blown off in the weirdest of ways.

First there was RMW’s blurb on their website about how they’d done a 4k 16-bit restoration of the OT (yeah, no big deal or anything), which spawned the 4k thread, and now we find out (if it’s true) about the unaltered versions coming out because someone/something changed the title of the amazon download page?

Part of the weirdness comes from the timing, which is right after (what I consider to be) one of the most credible rumors on the OOT, as well as the fact that it’s a weird mistake to make if there is no planned release of the OOT.

There was speculation about this on Reddit the other day as well. Thread in question: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedLetterMedia/comments/5wb6kh/unaltered_version_of_star_wars/

Basically this guy noticed that the soundtrack listing for RoTJ on iTunes replaced Jedi Rocks with Lapti Nek, and Victory Celebration with Yub Nub. He speculates that it’s in preparation for an unaltered release of the movie.

I was skeptical, but combined with what’s already been posted in this thread, it does seem to make the evidence a little more compelling.

Then again, if it was only digital then Disney would get 100% of the profit on Empire and Jedi.

Yeah, 100% of the substantially smaller profits.

True, and it would piss off a lot of people to release such a long-sought-after item as a digital-only release.

My God, my heart is pumping. I’ll keep some skepticism until we get official word but, as a digital Carrie Fisher said in Rogue One,… “Hope.”

Shoot, part of me wants to take the plunge and pay for Jedi, just to see.

Checked Google Play: The film is the dreaded 134 minute version… BUT, Lapti Nek is listed instead of Jedi Rocks and samples of that and the finale are of the original music 😃

I think there was some discussion a while ago about the soundtrack releases, and I think the consensus was that it was unrelated.

Author

Yes, the soundtrack is unrelated. Sony’s rights to the music simply expired.

Yeah. There’s a lot to that, but I think ultimately what’s important to remember is that those two things are up to entirely different people and depend on entirely different things.

So there is not currently an SE Jedi listing on Amazon digital? Meaning, this is indeed a mistaken mislabeling of the SE (and if you bought it, you would get the SE), but perhaps still indicative given that such information really has no business even being on Amazon’s servers?

edit: People are saying the run time listed is the theatrical one (2hr 14min). Isn’t that the SE time? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086190/technical

Yes, I started the whole run time thing and I was wrong and redacted my original comment. I once again apologize for the confusion. -Nick

I wonder how long TFA and RotS have said “theatrical version” on their amazon streaming links.

Rogue One is noted as the “Theatrical Version” as well. If there were indeed plans to release the OUT, and if it were to be offered for streaming separately from but alongside the SEs, it would make sense to put the version note next all the movies to avoid people asking “is this the theatrical version” for the others.
