Hey, Sessler!

Did that ban on selling M rated games to minors in South Carolina affect you? That must really suck to wait till you're 17 to get a game and then have it made illiegal for them to do so for another year.

Stupid Stupid laws.

Considering the fact I live in NC, no.

Unless I decide to go to the Mall in Myrtle Beach on some odd day to buy a game...

This is totally off-topic, but while taking my US History AP test today (made by CollegeBoard mind you) there was a question about some name of some army (I completely forgot what it was) but one of the answer choices, along with like the regular army names, was "Grand Army of the Republic"

There is no way in HELL that is a coincidence, no way.

Reminds me one time when a teacher asked us what was the greatest weapon ever concieved by man, and I raised my hand and said "the Death Star"?

DARN IT SESSLER!!!

WE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE DISCUSSING THOSE QUESIONS EVER!!!

Acutally, I had the same test today and had similar thoughts... The Grand Army of the Republic... ROFL. I bet the CollegeBoard had a good laugh with that one.

Who here plays super smash brothers melee? I do, every day, while at school, And I don't even own a GC.

My top 3 characters at that game are:
Jiggilypuff
Mr. Game and Watch
Ice Climbers

whats your top 3 characters at that game?

Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabris, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam.

I don't play it much anymore, but my favorite characters were always:

Mario
Ganondorf
Kirby

The powerhouse trio! I would say "pair" for the sake of alliteration, but there are three of the, so it's trio. What really sucks is that I had the wrong memory card in my GC and didn't know it. So I accidentally created a new save file. I put the correct card in and I glanced at the confirmation scene and hit YES...

Only to realize a split-second too late that I had confirmed that I wanted it to SAVE OVER my good file with the new file I'd accidentally started. I lost everthing! That sucked...

I love Smash Bros. but can't seem to beat all the challenges so I can unlock that sought after Music Test. Link is my favorite character, although I'm decent with others too.

As for the ROTS game...IGN gave it a 4.5. I give it a 8.75. It's amazing. They completely ripped into it, but they are just jaded and hate Star Wars. There is nothing cooler than fighting Obi-Wan as Anakin and grabbing things in the room to throw into him before you launch him into the air with your lightsaber, slash him a dozen times before he lands, and then come down with the blade buried into his chest.

Or force grabbing a Jedi youngling, and "forcing them" to fly and impale themself onto your blade.

Seriously, the game rocks. And as for spoilers...most of the levels are scenes from the book or that were cut from the movie. There really isn't that much spoilering about it. I think it spoils it as much as the Lord of the Rings games spoiled the movies.
Which is the more foolish, the fool (the OT) or the fool who follows (the PT)?

In SSBM I had a friend of mine beat the next-to-last chalenge for me. I couldn't get past it.

I finished number 51 using Ganondorf and many many hours infront of the TV.

Edit: The music test is totally worth it! Don't give up!

Yay after 3 weeks I got my DS back, I've only played 2 days with it before I borrowed it - If I only had someone else to play with

LOL sounded like a Simpsons episode in which Lenny is driving a car, and all the signs were changed to either green or yellow only. So Lenny speeds up when he sees yellow and says "Cmon stay yellow, stay yellow! Yes, it's a new record! If I only had somewhere to go...", that's my second favorite Simpsons quote...

I could never get into SSBM as much as I did the first one.

Same goes for the Original Mario Party. That game was my life for weeks, I had welts and blisters from pressing the buttons and twirling that hard thumbstick. The next ones, in my opinion, were just "meh," I couldn't get interested in them at all.

Mario Party is the kind of game you must play with a bunch of friends. Most of the fun from that game isn't from the game itself, but with the laughs and fun you'll have with your friends. Same goes for other games such as Goldeneye64 multiplayer, Bomberman 64, and other fun multiplayer games... The 3DO was the first system to have these sorts of "party" games, there were a bunch of them, like "Twister", in which each player was a game show contestant...

I had some problems with SSBM at first, but I got used to it. Mostly it was the comparative wussyfication of Mario. He PWNS everybody except MAYBE Link and Kirby in the first game. He's not as powerful the second time around.

But it's nowhere near as bad as how weak they made Pikachu compared to the first game. My brother didn't like that too much.

I'll take this double post to say this: reading the news at IGN and gamespot, I have decided that the next Generation of games and consoles is going to ROCK OUT LOUD and then some.

gonna disagree with you on that. Link was the easy character to play...not trying to insult anyone that used him, but 98% of the people i know started with link. Yeah, you could get good with him and play him beyond that level, but no way he would be put at the top. Just like Mario did not 'PWN' everybody. Kirby was decently good but honestly not that much of a challenge, even in the hands of a good player.

actually all the characters were good in the hands of someone that knew what they were doing, I know people that rocked with donkey kong. heck, i know people that could clean house with Jigglypuff. My character of choice was Ness. Now he PWNS everybody. I was deadly with him, but i knew how to play him to his full advantage. Just like my friends could play their character of choice to full advantage. Actually my one friend that gave me the most trouble spent time playing lots of characters, and was good with most (prob the best as far as being able to use multiple characters that i know, and actually probably only second to me as far as a single character). He mainly played Pikachu when we were in serious matches, but at the end he picked up Yoshi and was damn good (and annoying) with him.

in the new one, they actually 'wussyfied' all the characters because they changed the whole style of play. I lost the precision i had with Ness' third jump because of the control change. but yeah, basically they are two totally different games and need to be played in different ways.

I never said Link was a hard character to play with, but he's very powerful. Mario owns him, though, because in the first SSB Link could not jump worth anything. That was fixed in SSBM and IMO makes fighting Link more interesting.

In the first game, most of the characters had something that could be abused. Link's Up B and Up A, Mario's Tornado and throw attack. Pikachu's thunder strike. These were, as you said, way toned down. Several of my SSB Mario strategies were made usless. (Mario Tornado followed by Up A is no longer Death Incarnate in the Gamecube version.)

I'm not sure where you disagree with me, though?

Kirby was nerfed in melee.

Link was pushed up. On the N64, Link had to use all three jumps to get a hand-hold on Sector Z, far less trouble on Corneria for SSBM.

Jiggilypuff's b-punch was nerfed to make room for the new roll-up attack.

Ness and Pikachu were nerfed, Pikachu more understandably with Pichu added.

OK experts: the most recent game system I have is the PS1 (actually GBA but I mean the home variety) but I've just asked my wife for an Xbox for my upcoming birthday. My question is, what games should I start with IF I get it? I have my eye on the first 'Knights of the Old Republic' and a friend says 'Splinter Cell', but if you had to suggest three games to buy what would they be?

1) Halo
2) Ninja Gaiden - very hard, but very rewarding

Chaltab, in your first post you said that Link pwns everyone except mario, you may have miss-typed because you said the reverse in your next post, if what you meant was what you said in the second post then i guess i dont disagree it was with this comment about links power that i disagreed with. yes link is very powerful if used correctly, and he is more easy to learn to use then most others, but if playing against a decently good character the person playing as Link needs to be real good to not get schooled.

skyman, i gotta agree with pretty much all of that, i know someone that was real annoying with jigglypuffs b-punch, they also used it to travel from one side of the screen to the other making it very hard to kill them. If i remember correctly i though links new third jump was somewhat weird, but i havent played in a while.

I think all the characters had at least one movie that was real powerful and the that you could exploit, but at the same time you could also exploit the characters use of that if you knew what you were doing. overall i think the original was fairly well balanced. my friends and i got so good that we would basically cheap kill people (kick them straight down when they were trying to come back) Ness is very good at this if you can control his third jump (which i could), Pikachu and Yoshi are also good at keeping people from coming back as well as DK cause he has that down punch.

I think the change in controls affected the play a lot, like with Ness it made his 3rd jump much harder to control.

I started mainly playing Zelda/Shiek (the ability to transfer based on the needed situation is huge) and I also used Mewto but to a lesser degree.

For Xbox, you have to get KotOR. I have it for the PC, and its one of the best RPGs I've played. KotOR II you could pass on, but its still a good game.

But, I don't know much about Xbox games...I'm a PC/PS2 kinda guy.

I'm a fan of my childhood favs still - for games that is.

I own a 64 and a cube, andhave a few of today's power-hungry PC games, but the point-n-click adventures of old.... they were the best.

Fate of Atlantis, Sam n Max, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Monkey Island. But of course, I loved the Neverhood! Anybody else here heard of that, or played it? Or better still; loved it and has the soundtrack (like me )?

I don't have a computer capable of anything more advanced than NoOneLivesForever 2, unfortunately, and even with that game it stutters and slows down on even the lowest graphics settings.

See. I said "he" with Mario being the antecedent, "PWNS everybody" Except for MAYBE Link (Because of Link's Sword attacks. My best friend used to play as Link and he was the only one who could beat me for two years) and Kirby (Because of his really powerful up B and Down B attacks, and because he can jump six times)...

ok, i confuzzled things in my head.

either way, I dont share the view that Mario is as powerful as you say. I never had any problem defeating Mario (as Ness) or Kirby (though getting caught in his drill kick does suck)

and no one else could beat you for two years cause you didnt play against me or my friends My one friend who someone harnessed the power of Yoshi was probably the only person that could consistantly give me a challenge, he's the guy that could actually play like 3 characters really well and would start playing another character after he got good with the current one (mainly played Yoshi, Pikachu, DK). If youve every played against someone that can use Yoshi effectivly its a royal pain in the ass, those eggs he throws are possibly the most annoying move in the game.
