4K restoration on Star Wars — Page 128

Just when I had all but erased all memories of that show from my mind. . . .

I would say that I myself, have shown appropriate contempt for Georges decision to obscure the original versions of his films. I didn’t threaten his well being, nor did I try to convince people of this wacky narrative of him. No. I just tell people that I wish the originals were properly restored along with the altered versions, and I have stated why I feel so strongly about the theatrical cuts. That’s it.

As for their not being a reason for Disney/Fox to release the theatrical cuts is nonsense. Those Theatrical/Special edition comparison videos on YouTube have millions of hits a piece. The Despecialized edition videos have millions of hits a piece. There are millions of people interested in the theatrical cuts. That is hard evidence of that. The demand is there.

We will never know for sure if the original versions are going to be re released ever again until we hear something at Celebration 2017. If we don’t hear anything then, then it’s up to the dedicated fans to restore dank 35MM prints.

For me I look at it like this in regards to the picky fans. There’s fans like myself who are discontent with Lucas over the OUT not being available and/or making the PT. Then you have the obnoxious clueless fans who claimed Lucas ‘raped their childhood’. I’ve said it before I’ll say it again I don’t agree much with what Lucas has done but never will stoop so low to compare what he’s given us in the past 20 years to rape. That’s just wrong, disgusting, and totally single minded.

I do believe we will get the OUT someday. Selling the same SEs won’t be enough of a selling point eventually, hell it really isn’t now. And also flawed or not the PT is what it is so I will accept it. I know others will feel different and they’re entitled to but things could be worse. I’m excited to see what’s in store for Star Wars’ 40th anniversary whether it includes the release of the OUT or not.

They do not need to sell OT any more. They can make shitty films like TFA every year and sell them in theatres and through home release and get billions for each of them.

The demand may as well be in millions, however getting millions from OOT release is insignificant when they can produce shitty films like TFA every year and get billions for each of them.

Screw the fans, release the damn thing so the people who made it what it was can feel appreciated. If they are even alive now. So aggravating.

This is a very good point that sometimes gets overlooked. It’s not just about the fans who want the original, but it’s really about preserving what won the film 7 Academy Awards - for those who made it but also just for our culture as a whole. Think about the fields it won in… then realize the SE has altered all of those achievements. Is it really an Academy Award winning movie anymore? Especially when I think about Visual Effects, Editing, and Sound Mixing. All of those have been drastically altered.

I would say the other way around. People who worked on the film were paid and it was basically their job. The priority should be on present and future people who enjoy (will enjoy) these films.

I couldn’t care less about some irrelevant stuff like Academy Awards. The film should be preserved for present and future generations. That is the only thing that is relevant.

It’s already official. We’re getting them 2020 at the earliest, and that’s if Disney can iron out a deal with Fox.

I think the wisest thing to do would be to just ignore anything related to all this business until it’s officially announced. Who cares what anyone tweets or what rumors are out there? It’s all meaningless until something real happens.

There’s nothing official about that. Frink is right. Absolutely no one has provided any refutation or affirmation of this rumor in any remote way. Just wait until Celebration and see what they say, if anything.

Let’s just wait til Celebraion happens. At this point what’s another two months???

Pablo can be a bit of a twit. Also he could be doing misdirection until Celebration, at the behest of Lucasfilm. We don’t know. Until Kennedy says this isn’t happening I still have hope.

If Fox does release them, how cool would it be for one store to have exclusive covers that mimic the old 1980’s releases.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

^ That would at least be one good use for exclusive store releases.

Yep. We can speculate until the cows come home but none of the rumors or hearsay mean anything without official word.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Even if we don’t get the OOT, we will probably at least get a new transfer, so worst case scenario Despecialized will get alot better.

yeah and if they fix the color timing that’d be great

however they re-release it the next time they do, i just want to be able to pre-order a copy for myself.

"As far as I know, there’s only one person who could make this happen and he hasn’t seemed all that interested."
I don’t think he’s talking about George. I think he’s referring to a studio big wig. That’s just my two cents on
that. Anyways, the Episode III extra has spoken

My thing with Lucas holding it up is that Disney was able to drop his treatments and have JJ and Kasden do what they wanted.

Also, George told John Landis that Disney was going to put out the original versions, which directly conflicts with what Pablo is saying (if he’s referring to George).

Despite everything else that has come out on both sides of this, the Landis quote still remains to me the most convincing evidence that it will happen soon. It is incomprehensible why a director of his stature and respectability in the industry would lie about such a thing, and it is equally unbelievable that he would have misheard or misinterpreted any personal communication with George on the matter.
