I think that in today's day and age, there's way too much emphasis on melding people's beliefs into one universal belief system. Yes, the major religions do have much in common (Islam recognizes the divinity of certain figures from the Judeo-Christian faith, for example), yet there is much more different. The unfortunate part of trying to concentrate only on the similarities is that most people who point out the vast differences are labeled as being intolerant. Is fighting ever a good thing? No. Is being coerced into believing something you don't believe right? No. Is tolerance a good thing? Yes, however as long as "tolerance" is not really a demand of acceptance couched as tolerance. The differences are FAR from being skin deep.
