The TFA Crawl colours and sound still feel weird to me. Maybe the typeface is slightly wrong?

TFA uses the same title font as A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Return of the Jedi used a different font that they used throughout the prequels. The R’s are the biggest clues.

The color is fine. The theme recording does sound different.

As it should because it is a new recording unlike 2/3 of the PT crawls.

I haven’t caught this.

Yup, AOTC and ROTS use the same recording as TPM, whereas all the OT themes (and now TFA) are original recordings.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

The TFA theme wasn’t conducted by Williams this go around. He was busy with other parts of the score and entrusted it to a friend of his. Which is why it sounds so off. Here’s an article about it.

Different conductor, different musicians. Very interesting.

I think that’s only a part of it (important to note that Dudamel conducted the end credits too). It definitely sounds like certain elements are favored more in the TFA recording than in others, those this could easily come down to the mix as well. I would say it sounds “off” due to a number of factors, mostly the mixing, the different orchestra and everything that goes along with that (players, instruments), different recording techniques, and the simple fact that we got used to the other recordings (and especially the TPM one).

Han, stop trying to fly airplanes, please.

http://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/harrison-ford-has-incident-passenger-plane-airport-n720826

Actor Harrison Ford was involved in a potentially serious incident Monday in California as he was piloting his private plane, a single-engine Husky, NBC News has learned.

Ford, an experienced pilot who collects vintage planes, had been instructed to land on runway 20-L at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, but mistakenly aimed for a taxiway, instead. His plane passed over the top of an American Airlines 737 carrying 110 passengers and a six-person crew.

The passenger plane, AA flight 1546, managed to depart safely for Dallas just minutes after the incident.

Ford, 74, was heard on air traffic control recordings asking, “Was that airliner meant to be underneath me?”

Air traffic controllers then informed Ford that he had landed on a taxiway rather than the runway — a violation of Federal Aviation Administration safety rules.

Is he alright?

He’s fine, except for potentially being in hot water with the FAA. This is what happens when you don’t have a Wookiee co-pilot.

Where were you in '77?

Probably a stupid question whose answer is already known, but humor me:

In Harmy’s Despecialized Edition of SW 1977, it’s clear that Luke and Obi-Wan’s lightsabers are the same shade of blue. However, for some reason in the GOUT transfer Luke’s blade appears white in the scene on the Millennium Falcon.

Is it possible that some elements from the original in-camera white lightsaber effects (also seen in the 1976 trailer) snuck into the Falcon training scene on the 1990s laserdisc release?

The in-camera effect was just a reflection, like safety vests on construction workers. The outer glow would have been a post-production effect, which the training scene has.

I always remember it being more white that blue but I just thought it was that the DEED has boosted colours, where the GOUT is washed out.

Interesting. I always thought it looked a little cartoony and the starfield was over saturated. The music bugs me forever though, even though this thread sheds some interesting light on things.

Same. And I don’t even differentiate the other movies’ intros from each other.

I wish I could say I get that but I truly don’t. Is it just the first blast or is it the whole thing?

It’s … tinny? For lack of a better word. The brass isn’t deep enough and the lighter percussion is too loud. The SW logo is too big as well grumble grumble. It all just looks bold or a similar but wider typeface. Maybe I am just insane though.

That’s just someone complaining about them changing the font back to ANH/ESB.

I mean the horns sound brighter and there’s less low brass and timpani in the mix. It sounds different, but I like that about it. All the other recordings have differences.

I’m not sure I like that they changed the title color but I don’t think it really matters.

They talk about this on Star Wars Oxygen. <_<

Definitely not a fan of the TFA version. Just sounds wrong.
