I can't believe the US supported these bastards. Sickening. Sorry this happened to your country Ric. I had no idea.
Unfortunally most of them are free today. All the presidents who served as dictators are now dead (natural causes), but some of the responsibles for those acts are still around. There's this bizarre story about this female singer who was herself tortured during the dictatorship years, and she lived at an apartment building, and the man who tortured her moved to her building, and she met him at the elevator. She just stared at him, he just lowered his head and said nothing, locked himself in his apartment and only left some days later, when he moved out of there. Unfortunally even our own kids don't know what the dictatorship was, most of the teens today don't know about it or don't care... And nothing is being done to bring justice to those who suffered, I mean, what can you expect from a freaking underdeveloped country who received Ronald Biggs (the biggest thief in history, stole millions in UK in the 60s) and Dr. Mengele (Dr. Death from Auschwitz), both who lived free in Brazil (Biggs returned to UK and got arrested, Mengele drowned while swiming in Rio). It is OUR fault we chose to face this sad part of our history this way, it's OUR fault we can't bring justice to those who deserve... I mean, look at the "Mothers of Plaza de Mayo" in Argentina... They want justice for their killed sons for 30 years...
*sigh* But it's all in the past now, all we have to do is to make sure the past dosen't repeat itself. And I rather not talk about this subject for a while...
