Strong dislike.
What about Yoda wielding a Lightsaber?
What about Yoda wielding a Lightsaber?
That dislike can’t even be measured.
I’m fine with prequel references as long as they don’t mention midi chlorians, gungans, clone Boba, any specific characters originating from the PT, Yoda’s saber, or other things that I can’t be bothered to remember right now.

What, no love for Ric or Panakacakes?

I was going to post just about the exact same thing.
Panakacakes are NNRRPPB! EU.

Well, to each his own.
I’m sorry but anyone who watched OT Yoda should recognize that he would never, ever own a lightsaber, let alone use one.
Holy crap I just had the “lightsaber ruined Yoda as a character” discussion the other day with someone else who liked it.
Howwwwwwwwwwww.

It’s for the same reason as the SEs exist in the first place: Lucas deliberately fouling up his earlier ideas from the 1980s.
The difference, of course, is that the PT is an act of creation, however misguided, and the SEs are an attempt at wilful destruction of previous films.
“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”
“Every act of creation is first an act of destruction.” ~Pablo Picasso
I’m fairly interested in the Aftermath series though am holding off until it’s done so I can binge read it.
Certainly not this one.

But the question is: destruction of what?

I take issue with this statement as I can see a Yoda in his 20-200’s using one but after mastering the more overtly destructive and esoteric parts of the Force he discovers that a true Jedi Master need not use a man crafted item for the Force was the only ally he truly needed. As great as he is Yoda wasn’t born the Jedi Master we all know and respect.

I thought the first two were all right once you get past the too-colloquial-for-Star-Wars writing style. Certainly better than Heir to the Jedi, at any rate. The main story with the new Rebel characters doesn’t really do anything for me, but everything happening on the Imperial side and the little snatches of what’s going on in the galaxy at large that you get in the interludes are some of the most intriguing content we’ve gotten so far. I’ve read all of the adult novels except Dark Disciple, Twilight Company, and the Rogue One novelization, as well at Lost Stars, Ahsoka, and the Journey to The Force Awakens character novellas for the YA stuff (I’m able to listen to audiobooks at work, so it’s pretty easy to keep up). The real standout so far is definitely Bloodline. I’d definitely recommend that over the Aftermath books, but I think those are worth picking up if you’ve got the time and interest as well.
Yeah I know the Aftermath books have had kind of a mixed reception. But mixed means some liked it, and with the fact that they’re mostly the only post-ROTJ content out there now, I really don’t mind taking a dive and finding out for myself (anyway if I really hate it, I can stop before I move on to the others).
Is Ahsoka any good? Haven’t really heard much about it.
I actually read somewhere recently that Twilight Company is really solid, which I found interesting because (as a VG tie-in) I thought it’d be pretty throwaway.
JEDIT: discussion should probably continue here: http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-Official-Canon-Content-Thread/id/53868
By the way, these are the pieces of the new canon that I’ve consumed thus far:
- (Episodes I-VII, Rogue One, TCW)
- all of Rebels
- all of the Vader comic and Vader Down
- the Heir to the Jedi audio book
- the Catalyst audio book
- the beginning of the Tarkin audio book
so not really much so far though I am interested in more (and am taking suggestions). I have the first vol. of Poe Dameron, all of Kanan, the 3PO one shot, and Shattered Empire within reach and will read when the time is right. I will also 100% read Bloodline once I get the chance (and am quite stoked to). I’m fairly interested in the Aftermath series though am holding off until it’s done so I can binge read it.
Other than that? Not sure. How’s the main SW Marvel series? Princess Leia? Lando? Chewbacca? Han Solo?
Is Lords of the Sith any good? Lost Stars I’ve heard is solid. Any other books worth reading?I guess come here and ask?
Hmm, yeah it does seem we’re veering off topic, and that thread is for what’s good about all the EU, not the new EU specifically and not just general thoughts. Maybe a new thread is in order?

“It’s true. All of it” - Han Solo
Well my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.
The OUT is canon to me for sure, though I do have my reservations about ROTJ. I feel it could have been a lot better, it doesn’t feel like a proper followup to ESB. Not to mention I hate ewoks.
While I accept the overall plot arc of the prequels as events that happened in the SW universe, I regard the films themselves to be horrible depictions. I outright reject many elements in it, such as the presence of R2 and 3PO, midichlorians, and Yoda using a lightsaber.
I thought TFA was an average movie that did a great job at doing what it set out to do (a return to form, reinvigorating the franchise, introduction to new characters, etc.). While I liked it, I’m not sure if I consider it canon yet. Snoke seems extremely stupid and unfitting. I have high hopes for TLJ, if that movie ends up surpassing TFA, I’ll probably accept the ST as canon.
Also, hi, I’m new.
