What movies do you consider canon? — Page 3

The idea of canon is dumb af. This isn’t a religion.

For me: Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi are the only things that matter. Not something in a book or that was in an earlier draft, or anything that didn’t appear in the movies. Just those three films themselves as they are (or were).

But if someone else likes something else, I could care less. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I’m not so insecure that I need my ideas to be recognized as “official” in order to feel better about myself or my tastes. Not everyone can be as cool as me, and I recognize that, and I know that time will forget about all the rest of the garbage and only judge the three original films worthy of praise anyway.

What?

Self-explanatory things are self-explanatory.

I don’t really see anyone pleading for their “ideas” to be canon. And it’s been some months since I last stated I wanted the Darth Bane Trilogy to be canonized. Also the “making yourself feel better” part is just you projecting and in general isn’t really warranted.

Is it really difficult to understand that this thread is about “personal canon”, not official canon?

Something being “official” or not shouldn’t matter. What does is the idea of whether something “happened” in the continuity of a story. These things are important only as far as they impact the story.

I see no problem with not having a canon, and no problem with having one. If you want to add another layer to these stories, fine. If not, who cares?

I don’t really have a personal canon of what I think really “happened” but I do have certain pieces of SW that I like and certain pieces that I don’t. There is a distinction between the two concepts.

Apparently they’re on in the same to Alderaan…

OOOOOT, The Force Awakens, Rogue One, The Clone Wars (CGI Cartoon, Chronological). Whatever fan edit for PT, I dunno.
I don’t own any Star Wars movies in any form. Just the custom cuts since to me it’s worthless to spend money on them. Not much of a fan anymore but I will buy the movie tickets. No, no merchandise either.

Seriously?

LOL. RayRogers, if you’re gonna pirate, at least try to refrain from announcing it to everyone.

You must have missed the first sentence in my post. I stated that the idea of “canon” at all is stupid in the first place. There is no need to make a distinction between personal canon, or franchise canon, or any canon. One is free to interpret a story however he or she sees fit.

I’m tempted to load this thread into my person cannon and discharge it into the ether.

Official canon is useful to keep continuity between different installments of a franchise. When watching Enpire, knowing that the events of Star Wars “really” happened certainly helps to understand the movie.

Rogue One, plus the Unaltered Original Trilogy is my own personal canon. I also count the first two NPR Star Wars Radio Dramas. The prequels & animations were merely tales told rather badly by 3PO 😉
As for Force Awakens, that’s in limbo. Will wait to see his this new trilogy holds up as a whole.

That’s a pretty smart stance imo

If VIII and IX end up sucking I’ll probably end up putting the ST out of my personal canon so that I may reinsert the Thrawn Trilogy.

I’m keeping TFA and Thrawn Trilogy regardless of the next movies. All I have to do is replace the twins with Ben, and that’s easy given that they aren’t even born until Last Command and are barely a plot point.

RE# ended up sucking and basically already stained the whole ST.

I own the OOT on Laserdisc but it’s in storage. Don’t own any PT custom cuts or if there are any Fan Edits for TFA I never bothered to get it since to me owning the Blu-ray disc is a waste of time. I’ll keep buying the movie tickets which is the only way I’ll support Star Wars and obviously renting the movies through Netflix. Not Streaming but DVD/Blu-ray disc.
It’s how I watched The Clone Wars by renting the Blu-rays.
I’m still waiting for TUCKER: The Man and His Dream to be released onto Blu-ray disc more than the OOT/UOT cuts on the format. Really don’t give a shit about it anymore.
With STAR WARS REBELS my buddy DVRs it for me. Or I bottow the discs from them and then return it.

That’s the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard. The PT would have been looked upon with favor if AOTC and ROTS were good films and we all know it. We would have seen TPM as a bumpy start to a good - amazing trilogy and the one you have to sit through to get to the good stuff. And to me ROTJ is a huge drop in quality in comparison to SW and ESB but the OT in it’s totality still works for me. You’re just looking for an excuse to hate the ST. No matter how good VIII or IX could be all you’ll be saying is that you think TFA sucks instead of judging the films based on their own merit.

I’m screenshotting this for when such a time arises so I can shove it right back in your face.

If Rey and Kylo are brother and sister (which I very much doubt) you won’t have to do that. I hope that’s not the case.
