I don't know how well it was received when it came out. I enjoy the movie myself, though don't watch the DVD version...its so easy to see the 'anti-grav' wires in the beginning.

I consider ST3 to be the best of the odd-numbered. I think the reason it was as good as it was is because it carried the storyline from ST2 and was cotinued by ST4.

If I had to rate the Star Trek movies, they'd be in this order:
2, First Contact, 4, 3, 6, Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis, 1

As for my own thoughts on the subject:
- You have to give some points to Stargate. The movie was kind of predictable, but look at the show that it spawned.

- Its kind of a kiddie Sci-Fi, but I enjoyed Flight of the Navigator enough to buy it on DVD.

Dude, totally agree about Stargate. Forgot about it. Cool flick. I watched about 3 episodes of the tv series...right up until Amanda Tapping beat the crap out of some barbarian warriors. Then I never tuned in again.

Cool flick. I hear there's a remake in the works.

Anyone see Saturn 5 with Kirk Douglas and Farrah Fawcett?

Don't you mean Saturn 3? The robot was cool, but the rest--ugh.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Its weird- I always think of that film as 'Saturn 5' too instead of 'Saturn 3'. Maybe it just has a better ring to it. Must be a flashback to the Apollo missions or something (and for the younger readers out there I don't mean Apollo from Battlestar Galactica!)

Most of them are too young to even remember Apollo from Battlestar Galactica. Sad.

Depends on which Apollo. You'll still here the 'name' used on the new series.

Sci-Fi channel runs daily marathons of shows from 8-4 every day...Battlestar Galactica (original) was on yesterday.

Since you bring up a TV show though, how about some underrated TV shows?
How about Sci-Fi channel originals First Wave and The Invisible Man?

Never watched First Wave, although anything with Traci Lords in it has got to be good. What about Earth: Final Conflict? I watched the first two seasons, but lost interest after that.

I watched some of Earth: Final Conflict in Sci-Fi channel repeats. It wasn't too bad, but there are other shows I would have rather watched.

That's kinda how I feel about other Sci-Fi shows that have been on TV lately, like Earth 2, Seven Days and Andromeda.

I used to really like Space: Above and Beyond, but it was cancelled after one series.

War does not make one great.

I always liked Krull, even though that's more fantasy than Sci-fi. If one considers The Last Starfighter in that group, so be it. It had some excellent moments. I second Blade Runner, Gattaca, Star Trek Nemesis, Flight of the Navagator, and the odd numbered Star Trek films. I always thought the the DC of Star Trek TMP was how the SE could've been handled. It was a real improvement. Logan's Run is great. If you count anime, most people have never heard of Gunbuster or Roujin Z. Even Key the Metal Idol is a tad obscure now. As a kid i really liked a Disney movie called The Cat From Outer Space. Jake ruled.

Made for IE Forum's Episode III theme month - May 2005.

TOTALLY 'Cat From Outer Space'!!! I loved that, as well as 'Krull' AND 'Last Starfighter'!

If you are speaking directly to greencapt, I can help with 2 of the 3.

Cat from Outer Space- Along the same lines as the original That Darn Cat. Disney, same time period. Its been a long time since I saw it last, so I'll just grab a IMDB synopsis:
A UFO is stranded on earth and impounded by the US government. Its pilot, a cat with a collar that has special powers, including the ability to allow the cat to communicate with humans, has eluded the authorities and needs the help of a man named Frank in order to reclaim and repair his ship to get back home. Stars Ken Berry and Sandy Duncan.

The Last Starfighter- Oh, I wish I'd thought of this. It really is an underrated Sci-Fi flick.
From IMDB:
Alex Rogan lives in a trailer court where his mother is manager and everyone is like a big extended family. He beats the Starfighter Video Game to the applause of everyone in the court and later that day finds he has been turned down for a scholarship to college. Depressed, he meets Centauri, who introduces himself as a person from the company that made the Game, before Alex really knows what is going on he is on the ride of his life in a "car" flying thru space. Chosen to take the skills he showed on the video game into real combat to protect the galaxy from an invasion. Alex gets as far as the Starfighter base before he really realized that he was conscripted and requests to be taken back home. When he gets back home, he finds a Zan-Do-Zan (Alien Bounty Hunter) is stalking him. Unable to go home and live, Alex returns to the Starfighter base to find all the pilots have been killed and he is the galaxy's only chance to be saved from invasion. To defeat the invaders, who are paying the Bounty on him, He must be victorious.Stars Lance Guest and Robert Preston. 'Before he was well known' appearance by Wil Wheaton.

Krull I don't believe I've ever seen.

I've heard that Krull was, and I quote,

12 Monkeys is great. Brad Pitt deserved his Oscar nomination, but unfortunately was up against Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects that year. Need I say more?

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I agree, GundarkHunter. A really good performance.

When it comes to the plot, one thing I always liked was how it treated time as being linear, which is sort of rare when it comes to time travel movies.
