One good sign about ROTS (no spoilers, please...lol)

As far as I can remember, GL didn't allow any advance screenings of either of the other PT films, but there has already been a press screening of ROTS and there will be advance shows across the country on May 12th (and no I don't have tickets but I know that radio stations and the like will be giving them away).

The rule of big movies tends to be, at least here in the States, that if the movie is known already to be a stinker there will be NO advance screenings so that the critics will have no time to flame it in advance. An early show could actually be pretty ballsy on George's part and hopefully shows a confidence in the finished product.

The thing I guess I'm most looking forward to in this one is that from everything I've seen so far its actually starting to *feel* like Star Wars. Yeah, it'll be glossy and video game-like in appearence, but there is what looks to be tons of nods to the OT. I don't know if anyone else saw the E3 footage that was recently posted on a.b.starwars but... wow! This is not to say my faith hasn't already been kicked before by the PT... but I'm actually getting vaguely excited. Dammit.

Yes, I too am beginning to get excited, even though I told myself I wouldn't. I've been down this road too many times at this point. GL and company are so good at trailer editing that anything they put out gets the Pavlov reaction, at least with me. I remember when I saw the first trailer for Phantom Menace, with the "Binary Sunset" music playing, then the "Every journey has a beginning....every saga a first step", then blamo! The trumpet music of the main theme comes on, and the hair on the back of my neck was way up. Talk about Pavlovian. We'll see, but I'm anticipating better things from this one than the previous two. Hopefully GL can gain a measure of redemption by going out with a bang.

Yes I suppose so, but any press or media viewers I would hope would pay the same admission price as anyone. Afterall, it is for charity. Regular advance screenings of films are paid for by the studios and advertisers and the audience gets in for free.

Advanced screening isn't enough to inspire me to get excited.

Not always. Since "Psycho" Hitchcock didn't allow advanced screenings of his movies (kinda obvious why on Psycho's case). I think David Lynch didn't allow either, and I've heard of a few good films who also didn't - I can't remember which ones.

Oh there's lots of exceptions, I didn't mean to indicate that was the *only* criteria. I used to help runs advance shows at a bookstore I managed and trust me, we screened LOTS of crap in advance. LOTS. And I inmagine there aren't *too* many plot points to truly spoil in ROTS...

Not only did Hitchcock not allow advance screenings of Psycho, but he ordered all theater managers to not admit anyone late to the film during it's entire run. He wanted the whole story to be seen, from beginning to end.

David Lynch is quite the exception, himself, since he didn't want chapter stops on the DVD of "The Straight Story" either.

I hadn't known that until a few days ago.
I checked out a book, 1001 Movies You Need to See Before You Die. That little tidbit of info was in the synopsis/review of Psycho.
