Thanks, Roscoe.....LOL!

Very nice, but double-check your spelling. Information is spelled wrong on the booklet.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Ha on the covers ... quite cute. There IS an official CD cover (er ... label) y'know. People who bought the dang thing know that. There IS going to be an official Amaray-size cover soon, I haven't heard from my pro cover artists in a long time, I may be forced to do it myself ... I'll email them I guess.

Orders for the real thing have dropped off completely now that it's torrented, proving what I always knew ... people on the internet are ridiculous cheapskates.

Here's my review of the day:

Hi Garrett,

I stumbled onto Deleted Magic on a bit torrent site. I downloaded it without really having a clue what it was other than a collection of deleted scenes. I figured I had probably seen all of them since I grew up a Star Wars nerd.

What I found left me speechless. I've only finished about 2/3 of the Lost Cut of Star Wars. I can't believe how awesome it is. I would have watched everything on the DVD last night if I didn't have to get up so damn early for work.

I've become somewhat disillusioned with the Star Wars franchise in the past few years. Between George Lucas raiding my wallet every few years for yet another new edition with minimal "improvements" or extras and the sheer god-awful acting in Episode 2, I had almost quit caring about something that was a big part of my childhood.

Like any self respecting Star Wars nerd, I still saw Episode 2 several times and am quite anxious to see Episode 3. Still, the magic has been slipping away for me. Your "Lost Cut" was exactly the kind of thing that the DVD releases have been missing. Congratulations Garrett, you rock as a film maker because you have succeeded where Lucas has failed miserably over and over. Deleted magic had me once again, captivated with the original. Its been years since I was that excited about Star Wars. I am driving all my friends insane talking about it all morning. What's more amazing, I'm writing a damn fan letter. That is so... not me.

I just wanted to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed the work you did with this. I thank you very much for providing me with such great entertainment. I wish you nothing but prosperity in your film making career and I hope that when George Lucas finally does get wind of this, rather than sue you, I hope he asks you to come meet him.

Here was my reply, by the by, if you're curious.

Now that letter made my day. =) Thanks Brian. When you work hard on something, you really want to know that people like it, and appreciate it in the way it was intended, and so it's really nice to get letters like that. If only I could get letters like it for my own original films! =)

I have the same opinion of what's happened to Star Wars ... it's a shame that we can't get the original versions of the films on DVD, and that Lucas seems to have vanished into his own success. The prequels are a shame, and it's easy to forget what an accomplishment the original film really was, and what classics all three films were. For me, making this DVD was a great way to rediscover Star Wars in an strange way, by taking it apart until it all started to look new. You tend to miss things when you watch them a million times over since you were a kid ... y'know?

Star Wars was a classic of its time, and for all time, and I think it's up to the filmmakers of today, the youngsters growing up on Jackson and Raimi and Aronofsky and Rodriguez, to create the great classics of tomorrow in the same mold. I write a lot of fantasy these days, and a Star Wars type film is definitely what I'd want to make if I could ever get the budget together.

All the best, glad you liked it, and have a good one .... stay tuned to originaltrilogy.com forum 9, as I'm working on some other discs, including a restoration of Return of the Ewok, and a restoration of the original Star Wars.

Cheers!

Errrr... I don't.

I knew there was someone working on a DVD cover, but I didn't know about the CD cover (anyway, I rather waiting for the DVD cover).

I meant a DVD LABEL was done officially, not a cover. =)

Hey Garrett! Very, very nice work on Deleted Magic! I created the cd case and disc art for myself and figured someone may want it. I tend to keep my collections in smaller cases...but I'm thinking about moving forward with standard dvd cases. You know how these covers are...there are literally thousands out there for all the preservation formats, edtis and what not! Hope I didn't step on any toes by making them.

Having seen Deleted Magic originally on T'Bones, I knew I had to get the DVD from Garrett! I haven't watched all of it on DVD yet but I must say this thing is fantastic. I know that people can get it from BitTorrent but you should all take the opportunity to get the "official" DVD from Garrett. The price is pretty damn resonable for all the hard work that went into putting this thing together, and then burnt on DVD with the official disc art, and shipped to you. I don't think he makes a cent on it but I'd think by getting it from him would for sure let him know that you dig it. Now if I could just get him to whip up some "official" DVD cover art and maybe even an insert then I would truly be happy. I'll watch it all this weekend and put up a review on Monday but I can assure anyone that hasn't seen it that you'll love it!

Thanks everyone!

Excerpt from another email I just wrote:

It's really hard to tell how many copies there are out there now ... The MOV version seems to have been downloaded 400 times in 5 days from T'Bone's site ... Putting him at 100% in under a week - I've really crippled his traffic! The response has been insane. This was just a little something I slapped together in a couple weekends, in my spare time, kind of creating the DVD that I wanted to see, and the response has shown me that I was definitely on to something ... It's clear that there is a HUGE demand for "real" 1977-style Star Wars stuff, that Lucasfilm is not necessarily living up to. (Which is the entire purpose of this site.) I really hope that if he sees this (or any originaltrilogy.com project), he gets the point and actually releases his own DVD of cut scenes and archive footage, and the original trilogy on DVD, and all that .... and doesn't just sue me. =\ That said, Lucas has finally started talking about a Deleted Scenes disc in the 6-disc box set, so we'll see.

--

I'm hoping to include more random interesting Star Wars things on the *Cough DVD. So look for that.

Ocpmovie, by any chance did you get into contact with TBone with the Deleted Magic DVD.

He still has'nt updated nor reviewed or mentioned it for months. I would like to see a review of the disc.

Thanks.

I just know for a fact even the force has sensed it too,

That the deleted scenes on the Saga Boxset will be disappointing.

Well, I know it's not the "official" one, but I did my own DVD cover for this masterpiece, I hope you'll like it (and if you wanna make it "official", serve yourself ).

Wow! It's a pity there's a bit of compression around the text on that cover, but the images used are pretty high-quality, considering.

Good work.

Here's the text from the Ain't It Cool News Jedi Council Session mention:

Grand Moff Lebowski: So, there’s this website put up by a fan who’s gone in and scrounged every deleted scene outtake, alternate angle, behind the scenes footage, and he’s reconstructed a comprehensive longer version or alternate version of Star Wars starting with the very beginning legend from Journal of the Whills, going in to the Alternate Long Time ago in a Galaxy far far away, to the original Star Wars that originally said The Star Wars with the original opening crawl. It’s radically different across the board into such detail as the deleted scene when Luke is wearing the Gilligan hat and the binocs, looking at the battle above Tatoonie. There was no sound for that original outtake, it was all black and white scratchy workprint, and he took the sound from the radio show and very strategically edited in Mark Hamill’s voice to give it sound. It’s just amazing, he went through the entire film and plugged in all this deleted footage, and it’s just Star Wars, though there’s a little bit of Empire and Jedi footage, and it’s up now on the web, and probably gone by the time this posts.

Moriarty: I guess there’s a fair question there, which is if he’s not going to do anything with this stuff any time soon, should he get too terribly upset with a fan who does it with the sole intent of other fans being able to look at it?

Tom Joad: Any fan would replace this copy with the real thing when it gets out there. I don’t think it’s inhibiting sales of anything.

Obi Swan: You don’t think Lucas has ever lost a dollar.

Tom Joad: I find it hard to discount this sort of thing.

Grand Moff Lebowski: And soon it’ll be at conventions sold as a bootleg.

Windy Starkiller: And hey, TROOPS. TROOPS was awesome.

Moriarty: Well, I guess that’s the crossing over into actually being allowed to play with Star Wars that is the ultimate goal of these people.

Well, for one thing you need to get a map and follow it to the canyon of the crescent moon...

Deleted Magic is right! The 2004 re-mix was used as the primary audio on this thing and the Death Star dive music is missing. This occurs 5:01 into part 20. What a disappointment! I was over my hatred of the DVDs and this just reminded me of how horrible the official DVD is. For something made to honor Star Wars, it really bothers me that this track was used for Deleted Magic.

Neil

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.
