My Empire Blu-Ray disc has Chewie on it.

Where are you from? I think the non-US discs where more exciting. Why they chose such a boring design for us Americans, and why it was even deemed necessary to be different, is beyond me.

If I get a good set with a proper OOT I don’t care if they label it Disc 87-1/2.

even if the disc art is luke with a sombrero?

I’d prefer sombrero discs to the boring, blank discs so many Blu Rays are.

But how are you supposed to know they’re Blu-ray discs if the whole discs aren’t blue???

I bought a copy of Red a few months ago. The disc is…blue…just like those pictured.

Although I do have a copy of the latest Terminator release that came in the red snap case. I swapped out those cases and now they both look better (Terminator looked terrible in the bright red case).

They did look great. Those were at a time when discs weren’t uniformly boring. A lot of discs wouldn’t have any art but a lot of them did. Now almost all of them are just a title slapped on the label.

Disney used to tout disc art as a special feature back then. 😉

Where were you in '77?

But didn’t you have a book-type packaging? My EU version has picture discs, but a regular “boring” BD packaging

We did. The packaging for the compete saga’s original pressing was quite nice.

The major studios have cut most of their video departments back and this includes both menus and disc art.
If they just simply used theatrical artwork for cover and disc there would be no issues.

Nothing encapsulates the magic of Star Wars better than a picture of Jake Lloyd.

I’m very glad I bought the 2015 release instead. I have the Indiana Jones BD set and it is a huge pain in the ass to pull the discs out. Plus, the cover art it better.

The Force Awakens had nice Blu-Ray disc art. I wonder what Rogue One’s will look like.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

I miss the days when each disc had its own plastic shell. Durable, easy, and practical.

Took up more shelf space though.

Yeah, yeah, sure, but it felt substantial. These books fall apart at the seams and the discs aren’t even held properly.

And say what you will about the '04 DVDs, they did have beautiful disc art:

I love the '04 dvd disc art but… the fact that the episode title logos are in different places on each disc triggers my ocd and my eye starts twitching.

Better put the logos in the same place, at the top right. Over the face of the characters !

Slightly off topic but if the National Film Registry included Star Wars among its selected films in 1989, why did Lucasfilm offer the SE print 8 years after the fact??? Was Lucas intending to change the film(s) as early as '89 and wouldn’t submit a print until the film was ‘finished’???

Not off topic at all!

I asked the very same thing only a couple weeks ago.
