I used to collect back in the mid-late 80's and early 90's. Mostly Batman, Transformers, Detective Comics, etc; Never read Marvel back then because I thought Marvel was for losers (my opinion on this has changed radically). I remember walking down to my local convenience store and picking up a copy of Batman #400, with an introduction by Stephen King. That was my prize until my brother got me a copy of Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, at which point, to quote Mr. Miller, "I fell in". Some of my favorite memories were taking rides with my dad to the next city over to the comic shops there (there were none in my hometown). As I advanced through high school I began to stop collecting, and made maybe one or two stops at the local comic shop through the entire decade. Around 2001 I stopped at one down the street from where I worked at the time and fell back in again. I take my kids with me when I go. Now my tastes know no bounds, and I'm dying to catch up on things I missed. For example, I just read the first issue of Neil Gaiman's Sandman (the collected first volume), and am thirsty for the entire series.
I'm just wondering what your favorite current title(s) is/are?
What was your favorite in the past?
Who is your favorite author?
Favorite artist?
My answers in order:
1. Anything by J. Michael Straczynski
2. The Marvel Transformers series (this was my lone exception)
3. Miller, baby.
4. I'd have to say the person who does Straczynski's Amazing Spiderman book, I think it's Romita, not sure.
Reminder: Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 7th. Take a friend!!
