I don't know about XVID, but I do know that MPEG4 will exceed the quality of DVD (mpeg2), given the same amount of space. I've seen HDTV-quality vids encoded in MPEG4 standard that are absolutely gorgeous.

I'm going to check out the BSplayer. Thanks!
