4K restoration on Star Wars — Page 110

That’s a good point, doubleofive.

Why do they keep “finding” these things?

Presumably because LFL’s archives are so large it takes a long time to go through them.

Also, they might not have known what was stored in there. The archivists probably had that box way down on a “to investigate sometime” list, but Edwards recognized it for what it was and brought it to light.

I’m reminded of how one time Ralph McQuarrie found a bunch of his old art from SW tucked behind the furnace in his house.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

Maybe it’s prioritized by the significance of the footage. Alternate takes that last at most 100 frames might be stored in more obscure places perhaps.

Say, you wouldn’t happen to have a copy of the 1993 version of LucasArts’ The Dig?

So does anyone else find it just a little suspicious that they are releasing reprints of the Original Trilogy novelizations in May?

What? Please explain. I’m curious.

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

No, they reprint these things every couple years.

Have they ever really been out of print?

Wasn’t there an alteration made to Jedi’s novelization at some point? They removed a reference to Owen being Obi-Wan’s brother. I’d be curious to know which edition was the first to feature this change.

I’d also be curious to know if any changes were made to the novelizations of Star Wars and Empire.

I’ve heard this quite often, but no one’s actually presented evidence that this is the case. Wookieepedia doesn’t mention any changes made to the novelization.

I’ve also heard about that, but every copy of the ROTJ novelization I’ve seen has that passage still in it.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

It might have been one of the more recent printings, but this was still at least ten or so years ago.

Either that or my memory is completely wrong on this.

I own a copy of Jedi that was printed after the prequels and it has the green DVD art as its cover and is called Episode VI and everything and it still calls Owen the brother of Obi-Wan. I don’t think that it was ever changed because it definitely would’ve been changed in there.

The text of the books has never been changed, it’s just one of those things that some fans believe ought to happen, so it comes up every so often, or they ask Hidalgo about it. “New novelizations to better fit the blah blah continuity blah blah consistent with blah”

It would be funny if they added text like “Luke stopped his land speeder and then a huge dinosaur-like creature appeared and moved slowly past him”.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Written in glittery crayon, no less.

“LOL”, Luke exclaimed, as the silly robot donked the other silly robot on the head before going back to picking up a random steel beam.

“Aaaaaahhhhh!!!”, Luke screamed, as he fell from the platform. The Emperor heard this through his connection with the force, probably, and considered, “What a marvelous scream. If I were to fall down such a shaft, heaven forbid, I too would like to scream like that.”

I could’ve sworn I read years ago that it actually was changed, but everyone’s reply tells me I’m wrong.

It’s possible I’m mistaking it in my memory for the shock of finding out that Owen being Obi-Wan’s brother was actually written into the book and then never changed even after the prequels blatantly contradicted it.

The DP of Rogue One Greig Fraser mentions that they had a look at the 4K versions of Star Wars AND Empire in the February issue of American Cinematographer:

“With Gareth Edwards, we wanted to be attentive that the look be consistent with A New Hope, which is seared in our brains. We weren’t necessarily trying to reproduce what it actually looked like, but how we remember it — there’s a difference between reality and the remembrance of reality. Part of our research was to look at the 4K scanned versions of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. They look fantastic, but they don’t look how I remember them.”

Not sure if that means that more digital nonsense has taken place with the movies.
