I don’t watch the PT, so it doesn’t factor into my SW canon, but I still wish that they had set the “extinction” of the Jedi much further in the past from ANH than they did. The only thing this affects in the films I like is that in R1 Jehah is a kinda “holy city” for the Jedis and force believers. That’s cool, but, as far as I remember, it seems to be a well known place and therefore the Jedi and the force are still fresh in peoples minds, or at least commonly known of.
So how is it that Luke has never heard of “the force”? I’ve always read Mark’s reaction to imply that Luke has never even heard the phrase used in the way Obi-Wan has used it.
I’d have liked to find out in the PT that Obi-Wan and Vader are much older than we’ve thought (Yoda seems to have used to force to prolong his life and maybe the Emperor too). I’d move Luke n’ Leia’s conception to after the Jedi murders.
I’d also have made Beru Luke’s mom’s sister. Her face and silence have always told me that she knows even more about the past than Owen. She’s also more understanding of Luke not being cut out to be a farmer, because she hasn’t always been either. It’s the only life Owen knows, so he’s extra defensive and “afraid”.
