Et means 'and' in latin and tu means 'you'... I don't know what et merde means though.

In Senarian,et means 'the'...

BTW, can anyone help me get the OV on DVDs?

"et merde!" is an expression, something like "oh!.... the hell with it!"

Author
Time
I would have thought it meant "and shit!"

Yes, "et" is "and". "Panis et circensis" is the name of a song, which means "bread and circus" in latin ("bread and circus" was the term used by the romans to specify what were they method to control the roman population, feed them and give them entertainment to forget the problems of Rome).

yes, but it depends on the context ;exemple :
you lost your keys: "et merde!" like in "damn!"
in france we also say "merde" to somebody to wish him luck!

but, enough french lessons, let's talk about SW!

I guess that would make sense, wouldn't it? Whoops. My bad.

But isn't it exclusively for actors? Like in "break a leg"?

Does anyone have an inside track on how to get an LD transfer of the original versions on DVD? I suppose I could go out and buy a used LD player and work backwards from there, but there's got to be a better way. Thanks!

They're still up on myspleen if you're into bit-torrents and have plenty of bandwidth and a DVD burner.

If you do get them from myspleen, look for the Mysterious Mysteries/Edit Droid versions.

In my opinion they are.

Out of all of the versions that have been uploaded(and I have them all) they are my favorite.

There are not too many people out there that would argue with that opinion.

With this version of the OT, the Wookie Groomer Split Screen trilogy and the 2004 official DVD's for those who have caved in you have a near perfect Star Wars OT collection.

That is my opinion for what it is worth.

As of today, I own-

A Non-THX VHS issue of the Trilogy (has the neato art pieces on the front of each)
A THX VHS issue
A Widescreen Special edition issue came out in what, 98-99? I don't remember.

So I guess that puts me @ #1. I have not caved. I honestly can't spend the $42 to get it. Just doesn't seem right for some reason.

Well as you can see I'm new,so I didn't have the chance to get some of the Pre-SE-LD Rips here. I am tho still trying to get Rikter's 6 Disc Making The Trilogy Collection. Anyway I am a #2. I'm a Star Wars Geek that must own every official(and the best unoffical) DVD put out. But I proudly display my 4 Disc OT Star Wars collection. I've watched evry special feature on 4th Disc except the 2HR doc,and still have yet to give the commentaries a listen. I have watched New Hope Once,Empire Once,Jedi Three Times. Of course my local Media Play was running a special, and that was.... "Buy the Star Wars Trilogy 4 Disc Collection and Get Star:Wars:Battlefront 50% off!" I geeked out and bought both on Tuesday,September 21st,2004.

I have not caved yet. I refuse to buy the new editions. BUT I have borrowed them from a friend, not particularly for the movies themselves (I still religiously watch my old worn-out VHS copies), but for the extra DVD with the mega-long "making of" documentary. That was an enlightening couple of hours well-spent. Not everyone had the kindest things to say about Lucas, and I do commend him for allowing it to be included in the DVD set. Other than that, he can kiss my butt, I'm not giving him my hard-earned cash for the changed-up versions!

PS - I *am* about to waste my hard-earned cash on an Apple PowerBook with superdrive in about 2 hours though - tell me more about this "my spleen" downloading and burning thing? - my VHS copies are about done for. Pardon my ignorance, but what's a bit torrent? (if you don't want to waste board space, email me at geeknumberone at hotmail - thanks!)

I can't answer your questions about My Spleen and bittorrent, but I would like to take this opportunity, from one Mac user to another, to congratulate you on what is now your new purchase. You're gonna love it!

Yes, I LOVE it. The airport extreme is bad-ass and so simple! And the superdrive. The whole thing is just so superfast, super quiet and super small - it's awesome. I can't seem to get anything done now though - I just wanna play with it all the time

Sorry to hi-jack the thread here, but as for the PC v. Mac debate, I can say that I have had both for a while now (a pretty powerful desktop PC and a Mac G4 desktop, which I basically just inherited and never used because I was scared to try something new), and since being forced to switch to a Mac at work recently, I am DEFINITELY preferring the Macs (which is why I chose the PowerBook - with Tiger of course). It's just so easy! Who knew that computing could be so... so... common-sense and user-friendly?? It's almost TOO easy to figure out - I'm constantly second-guessing the computer and saying to myself "this COULDN'T be all there is to it to it... could it?" And the answer is yes! That's all there is to it, and that's exactly how it should be. And the security threats are almost non-existent (at least for the time being). I'm definitely a convert... I'm born again, baby! Computers are exciting again!!

My favorite pro-Mac quote: "DOS Computers, manufactured by millions of companies, are by far
the most popular, with about 70 million machines in use wordwide.
Macintosh fans, on the other hand, may note that cockroaches are
far more numerous than humans, and that numbers alone do not denote
a higher life form." (from the New York Times, 1991)

Now, back on topic - someone fill me in about the bit-torrent and MySpleen downloads

That quote is sweet!!! I think I'm gonna hijack it and put it on my Website (which is admin'd using a Mac).

I have a PC at work that does pretty well. If I personally owned a PC, I would want one like it. But my other work computer is a G5 dual processor PowerMac running Jaguar (we haven't upgraded all our work computers to Panther yet and we won't likely go for Tiger at all until Adobe and Quark upgrade their software to operate on it -- I'm a Web developer and graphic designer).

At home, I have a G3 PowerBook Lombard that I've owned for six years and just upgraded to Panther from OS 9.2. The thing works faster and more reliably than it ever has in the past. I also have a G3 iBook (the white one) that I shanghai'd from work. The iBook has less memory, but we use it because it has Office on it. I haven't gotten a copy of Office for my Lombard yet. Still working with our IT department on a seat license for that. Again, with both of those, I will wait until Adobe and Quark upgrade their software before updating to Tiger.

I'm a longtime PC user (since early 90s), but made the switch in '99 and have no desire to go back.

Once you go Mac, there's no goin' back.

1. You're still holding strong and you do not own them
Lucas says he's going to release all 6 movies to the theater in 2007... I'd prefer to watch it on the big-screen.

number 1.

I have absolutely no desire to see/own them whatsoever. Honestly, I would buy ESB (I watch the 5-star ESB dvd all the time) but I don't like the new dialogue with the emperor. In fact, I hate it.

To this day, I have never caved!

Actually, when the lemmings were snapping up the new OT DVDs, I satisfied my cravings by going out and buying a definitive collection LD set off of Ebay.

WOOT!

Every sale of these new DVDs is a message to Lucas that his changes are valid. Screw him. I know my personal boycott won't make a difference in the end, but at least I'm true to myself.
