A staggered release would be totally acceptable! I’m sure I speak for most here when I say that we are beyond eager to witness how different the films will feel when we get to see them in more tasteful color palettes.

I’m glad to hear that you are taking your time, a delayed project that turns out good can be good forever. A rushed project, might end up bad forever. As long as people here are kept updated, take all the time you need.

Looking forward to hearing and seeing what you’re currently working on, and how the Davinci workflow is!

It doesn’t hurt to offer help, but it always hurts to disregard those that do.

I love how the 3-strip Technicolor style looks. I would like you to add Japanese, European French, German, Castilian Spanish and Italian dubs to your regrade.

While you’re at it, I would like a pony. Named Whiskers.

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

How was this done? Because I’m way too late into doing AotC and RotS to switch over to this, and (I know this is very naughty, but I don’t plan on releasing my fanedits so I guess is it OK?) I have bits of other people’s fanedits tucked in, especially in these latter two prequels. And obviously I have no idea what happened here or how to do it.

It wasn’t ever released but I also don’t think it was abandoned, it’s hard to juggle these things with real life.

So I made a word doc of all the screenshots we’ve been given of this project, all in one place so newer subscribers don’t have to trawl through hundreds of posts.

Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Beautiful, I’m one of those people who actually want HD versions of the theatrical cuts of the prequels lol this is looking to be amazing so far, how’s progress ?

Same here!! Planning on having all my blu rays be theatrical versions of the films, so this will be perfect! Is there anywhere for this project i could donate to? I know some other projects are asking for some.

Planning on doing this to deleted scenes?

He still regularly visits the site. I doubt he’s forgotten. I’m sure if he has an update he’ll share it.

Yeah, it’s honestly just that this project tends to move at a very slow pace. Life is definitely far busier than when I initially started the project, even moreso than a year ago and I’ve given myself far more ambitious goals in terms of how to work with the footage.

So no I have never forgotten about the project, there’s just often very few updates to share.

The most recent thing I’ve been looking into, if anyone is interested, is how I might use this still in development avisynth-based software Video Artifact (formerly Windmotion) to further improving the quality of the BD source for the intensive color work. http://www.videoartifact.com/va/

I think it’s also good to mention, that I tend to have become quite perfectionist about this project. Which when you stare at sequences and shots from these films for long periods of time over and over you really do begin to realize just how awful these films really look.

Video Artifact looks like a very promising tool, for all kinds of restoration and fan based projects. And thank you for the update!

Absolutely I’m sure you’re busy at home etc. I think just by judging this thread there’s a lot of attention created and we definitely want to see it’s first version come out shortly!

Good luck with the rest of the project. I’m sure it’s going to turn out fantastic!

In exciting updates to my hardware for this project, I will most likely be getting this television as an additonal display sometime this year (or waiting it out for the 2017 model) since I need something that would allow me to better futureproof this project, as in the possibility of doing an HDR variation (maybe even Dolby Vision) of this grade.

Given the ways I reflatten and upsample the blu-ray source, it’s totally possible.

I’m serious about the 4K aspect as I’m skeptical about if they will put out 4K releases of these films like they may for the originals.

Given that the focus is more about color work, doing a 10 and/or 12 bit master would be quite unique.

JEDIT:

Although I have also been considering a Vizio P-series as well if I decide to not opt for OLED, which might be a wiser option since tv’s have yet to reach the REC.2020 standard, which would surely date out either tv. Also being a full array LED instead, it is lacking some kinks like banding issues OLED technology still has. Plus it’s $1800 cheaper which would make me comfortable purchasing sooner.

Either way having a calibrated large 4K 10 bit display would be a tremendous help to this project.

Awesome, thanks for the updates. This is one of the current projects that I am most excited about. Keep up the great work!

Been looking even further into both 4K monitors and televisions. My main focus seems to be on HDR and color gamut abilities. The new Asus PA32U arriving later this year looks the most promising so far.

-Optimized 384 zones direct-LED backlight matrix support and ASUS LED driving technology achieves 1 micro second operation for better HDR performance (1000 cd/m², peak)

-Quantum Dot tech. reproduces 85% of Rec.2020, 99.5% of Adobe RGB, 95% of DCI-P3 & 100% of sRGB color space

Having a full array backlight and a peak 1000 nits brightness is definitely a must if I really plan on going through with doing an HDR10 variant, and the color gamut range is equally impressive. That much of the Rec.2020 and DCI-P3 standards are what stand out most to me. From what I’m hearing it’ll be priced around $1600 which is not too bad considering these specs.

In terms of televisions, which I think would be in addition to getting a new monitor, I think I’m leaning best towards a 65 inch Samsung KS8000.

And yeah, I’ve started doing some work with the professional version of Video Artifact. I’m transitioning all my pre-grading source manipulation work to this. Already very impressed how much I can stretch the ability of the footage I shoot off my Sony NEX 5T with the program, and am excited to soon play around with some of the prequels blu-ray footage in it. Could also prove useful for the “Rogue One style” grade I plan to do with the ANH blu-ray.

I’ll hope to post some comparisons of what this can do with the material somewhat soon.
