"The Groonies" was rumored at one point to be the name of a sequel to The Goonies. It is actually a misrepresentation of a description of a proposed sequel in which a bunch of kids, who hang out at Data's electronics shop (he's an adult, of course), are dubbed "The Groonies" by Data because, with his thick accent, he cannot properly pronounce "Goonies." It doesn't seem to ever have been intended to be the title. Yet some people spread the rumor that it was. Sad cultural joke.

The most recent actual title idea for the sequel, according to director Richard Donner, was "Goonies Never Say Die." Harry Knowles of AICN is a big proponent of this title although it doesn't look like the sequel will happen.
