You might want to contact the guy who runs this to see if he knows some people. I'd really recommend contacting as many VHS people/forums/stores as you possibly can to track down theses imperial plans.

Honestly though I hope you can find the missing episodes. I'm not for sure what you'd need to do though.

Great project! Maybe you can use the official Droids DVD for color correction and picture position.

I want to have a PAL DVD version with all available european languages. Can also someone make that with the Ewoks series?

Nice work, wow, remember this one from back in the day! Screens look impressive given what you had to work with.

Anyone know if this hit the newsgroups or other sites or is it only on myspleen? Unfortunatetly still hunting for a myspleen account

Resurrecting this thread once again, sorry!

I'm really interested in this project, is it still available to view?  I've tried to contact someone for MySpleen access but no luck so far, their PM box is full.

Has it been posted anywhere else as of yet?

Thanks

Soo... how much is it known about unaired pilots of Droids and Ewoks?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nkzhg1W6-ks&feature=youtu.be&t=416

Both can partially be seen there. Ewoks one seems to be an early form of "Haunted village" while Droids may be based on some abandoned premise.

Wouldn't even have know those existence had I not seen this cel on eBay:

(BTW, that seller has sold and is still selling TONS of Droids and Ewoks artwork (including concept art and early designs!). Might make a nice bonus feature for the next version of the DVD's. :) )

I'd love to get my hands on this, but can't get a myspleen invite :(

Will it be going elsewhere?

Badges?!? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges…

I’m quite interested in this as well

The young lad is Star Wars mad at the moment, so these should please him well. Time to fire up my long unused Myspleen account.

Just downloaded this and watched the first episode. It’s quite decent for 80’s fare.

Then this caught my eye:
Revenge of Kylo Ren
This sounds familiar.

Capturing Rey
Kybo Ren captures our heroine and escapes in a ship.

Finn and Poe
Not to worry, these two are on the case!

Poe and his Droid
This dashing pilot has quite the rapport with droids.

Rey Escapes
Preternaturally capable, our heroine manages to free herself from prison.

Rey and her Staff
And she’s quite handy with a quarterstaff.

Finn and Poe Shipping
All good things must end, but I hear that one is interested in the shipping business. 😉

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)

So, the TFA plot is a mix between Star Wars and a Droids episode?

WHAT THE–? lol. That’s awesome !

Haha, I completely forgot Kybo Ren! Even though I’ve seen Droids dozens of times (unfortunately not that episode as my VHS ran out during taping it 😕 ).

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Poe Dameron would have looked awesome in a sleeveless shirt and a headband.

Irvin Kershner, how could you?

I’ve recently come across this forum and I’m really interested in viewing these restored versions of Droids. Are they still accessible anywhere?

I did a somewhat rushed attempt at recreating the original episode “Tail of the Roon Comets” a while back and have just uploaded a clip to YouTube click here

I am curious to see if the versions talked about here are good enough for me to not want to invest my time in my own attempts. I have other bits and bobs underway which I’ll no doubt be discussing elsewhere on this site!

Many thanks
Nick

If you have sources that were not available to this project, there’s no reason to keep from attempting it yourself, as even if they’re not entirely better sources, different can still be useful to the overall effort. At the same time, if you’re just trying to use DVDs as your main source, keep in mind that there are a good number of episodes that never got that treatment.

Yes very true.
Unfortunately the only “acceptable” source I have is the US NTSC DVD.
I have all episodes on CVD (a hybrid of SVCD which uses a resolution of 352x576). These were created by myself around 10-15 years ago using the UK PAL Commercial VHS releases. Overall the picture is pretty good on these, but the frame blending/interlacing is a major issue. Regrettably I no longer have the VHS’s so I’m stuck with the CDs! This is every episode other than “Coby and the Starhunters”.
The only other sources I have are the usual versions that appear on YouTube etc.

This is why I ask about the quality of Retartedted’s versions. As his come from the NTSC VHS for the most part, I am wondering if it is worth me going to the effort of tracking down the NTSC VHS (if I can even find them!), and then a way of getting it onto the PC.

How do his versions stack up against the US DVD? My ideal would be using the DVD where the footage exists, and then splicing in the missing bits from VHS.

Hope that all makes sense!

I already did a UK VHS preservation set a few years back, which should still be up on the <internal organ> site.

That looks good! Unfortunately I have no access to the “internal organ” site so can’t see the actual results! 😦
I notice that the price of the VHS seem to have increased substantially since I acquired them last time (due to the increased rarity no doubt). However I may shortly be in a position to stump up the cash to buy them again. A quick look around the worldwide eBay sites suggests getting NTSC versions to work with would be difficult to say the least, and I’d still be left with having to get equipment to get the NTSC successfully digitised. I think that would be a bridge too far!

I will therefore set myself the task of tackling the 8 episodes that are represented on DVD, and attempt to restore them as best as possible to the original broadcast versions.

I remember watching Droids & Ewoks cartoon back in the 80’s. I still have the re-released clamshell VHS of Droids.

So it has been years since the last update. This was because I haven’t been able to obtain any new sources. But after years and years I finally got a NTSC retail copy of the Great Heep.

Took forever for this thing to surface.

I now have all of the Japanese tapes.

Only thing left is tracking down that stupid Mexican Droids 3 tape. Once I get that we can do a proper DVD/BluRay/whatever set.

Look’s like you did an amazing job on these mate, hopefully if I get an invite to MS I will be getting these I always loved the droid’s cartoon, love those Japanese tapes.

Very cool. Looking forward to you finding it, my friend. Nice to see you back!

I was planning a Droids restoration myself but after getting onto ms and downloading the mp4 files you did I was blown away by the quality. I’ve moved onto to other bits and bobs now (for example just shared my VHS recording of a 1997 SW documentary).
What are your plans for The Great Heep? Will you be doing an updated share? And do your other acquisitions mean improvements for other episodes?
I wish I’d kept my off air recording of Coby and the Starhunters. Ironically it was the only episode I retained for a few years after the broadcast run. I have a vague memory of the tape breaking and having to be thrown out but in case I’m wrong I’m keeping my eyes on all the VHS I’m going through!
