Ok, I’m downloading NJVC’s ISOs for the Despecialized trilogy. I know this might be a couple of questions that’ve been asked a million times before, but since this is my first time trying to burn Blu-ray discs (and with fully interactive menus), can anyone here recommend what software I should use and which brands of blank Blu-ray discs will get me the proper results? I’m using a PC with Windows 10, and I plan to watch the eventual Blu-rays on my Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and XBox One S. Also, the burner device I plan to use is the LG Ultra Slim Portable Blu-ray Writer.

This is the device. --> https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-External-Optical-WP50NB40/dp/B011327QXC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1484715297&sr=1-1&keywords=LG+Ultra+Slim+Portable+Blu-ray+Writer

I hope you guys can help me out. =]

I use the same burner on a windows 10 machine and haven’t had any problem with various brand names of blank BDs. Although I’ve only played them on my Panasonic BD player.

Burning the ISO’s is easy since its an ISO. I just use Widows to do it. Right click on your BD drive, and select Burn.

I think that the old Sony BDP-S360 might be playing a big part in my fiasco… Any suggestions for some quality BD-R DL disc brands to use and/or a BD-Player that’s confirmed to display the ISO menus?

I have the same blu-ray player and it’s never had a problem with anything I’ve burned.
The BD25 and BD50 discs I’ve been using are Japanese made TDK.

Yup - it wasn’t the player after all but thanks for verifying this. I had downloaded the wrong source from Mega – without menus. The were not njvc’s work. No wonder I never got menus. Downloaded the correct ISO and everything is now right as rain.

I’m on a Mac and just use the Finder to burn my images - Right click on the file and select “Burn Disk Image <filename> to Disc…”. This works well with the .iso images for njvc’s set. Not sure why you would want to use the MKV if you are burning to a physical BD disc. NJVC has two options for you - all 25GB discs or some 50GB discs. Make sure you have the appropriately sized blank discs of course. I chose to go the 25GB route so I needed 10 blank 25GB BD discs.

Nothing to lose and another possible coaster to gain. Will attempt this right now. It can’t be that easy… 😃

You, sir, are a steeley-eyed missile man! Straight from the Finder – it really was that easy… once I downloaded the correct source that contained njvc’s menus. Thanks a lot for the tip!

Thanks! Part of me keeps thinking that it couldn’t possibly be this simple/easy. I’ve recently been modifying (a.k.a. modding) the Mass Effect video games on PC which at times was an incredibly complex and tedious process. Coming off of that warned me to expect the worst when trying to make these Blu-rays, but the multiple posts I’m reading that state how simple it actually is when you have the correct ISOs is very encouraging. =]

By the way, just to make sure, I don’t even have to extract anything from the zipped files beforehand? The three ISOs look like three WinRAR files to me after I’ve downloaded them. All I have to do is right click on each of the three “WinRARs” and click Burn?

If you’re definitely looking at .iso files and not another extension, they’re not zipped files. You’ve just got winrar configured to be the default app to open the ISO files. It can be used to pull individual files out of the disc structure, though it does seem to have trouble with some ISOs. But yes, you just need to burn the ISO. I’ve never used windows to do that (and my Win10 seems to have no such option). I use imgburn, but most ISO burning software should do the trick.

I find ImgBurn to be the most reliable for these things.

Hm, I’ve been checking ImgBurn, and it looks like from reports of a lot of users that it potentially has malware. I did get a malware flag on my AVG AntiVirus when I downloaded it. Isolated and removed.

Imgburn shouldn’t have any malware. It hasn’t even been developed for like 4 years, as far as I know. Perhaps some other company is repackaging it with a malware installer. It’s normally a very light weight program. I think even previously innocent sites like cnet and sourceforge have delved into the dark side and including unwanted side applications (spamware, if not malware).

Maybe try from the links here? http://www.videohelp.com/software/ImgBurn

I tend to go to videohelp when I want a no BS answer on tools.

Well, I’m definitely not using ImgBurn on principle alone. Even if I can opt out of such unwanted software bundles, making the process so nonobvious and hidden is a big no-no in my view. Any other reliable software that’s recommendable?

Since this is is now a Q&A thread, what is a good printer for disk labels?

I’ve never used windows to do that (and my Win10 seems to have no such option).

In Windows 10 (and I think it was introduced in Windows 8, if you right click on an .iso file there will be options to mount it and also “Burn disc image” Burn disc image brings up a small dialog to select a Disc Burner and an option to Verify after burning.

If you don’t see the option it may be because .iso files have been assigned a different “Default Program” such as a third party burning or authoring program. That can be changed via Control Panel, searching for Default Programs. Or you could also try right clicking on the .iso and select “Open With” then select Windows Explorer.

I’ve used TDK, Phillips, and Verbatim discs. 25GB and 50GB

I use imgburn. Yes there is malware bundled with it but if you select the right options during install you can have it without.
Example here:
http://www.jdhodges.com/blog/safe-version-imgburn-without-opencandy/

ImgBurn is brilliant, but it does indeed sadly have a potentially dodgy installer. A post on the cdrlabs forum mentioned an easy way of using it without risking any unwanted crap:

Simply use 7zip to open the installer exe file, and extract the 2 exe files and Sounds directory. The rubbish is all in the $PLUGINSDIR directory.
