Gracious Poita. We will keep you in our prayers that power is restored soon, and what damage is done to you and your neighbors belongings, is repaired quickly.

God Speed.

In no way whatsoever did I expect this to be the current topic once I FINALLY caught all the way back up in this thread. As a resident of Oklahoma, I feel for you when it comes to sudden violent weather. I hope all ends up well and that the substantial home damage is mostly superficial or just looks like it’d be bad but doesn’t end up actually being catastrophic structural damage.

I’m glad you and your family are okay Poita. I hope the damage to your house and belongings can be repaired soon.

I’m very sorry to hear about the damage.

Looks like power’s back on for most residents of the town (according to Mudgee Guardian), but there are 1,716 households still without power.

Of course that would be very nice to see (for those are not used to manipulate 35mm reels), unless this take you too much time to do.

Here’s the sample poita posted showing the sountrack on reel 1 of the uk print:

Power is back on, PC won’t boot. No Internet here yet either. Going to open the PC up tonight to see what the trouble is. We rent, so the house damage isn’t our concern at least, and the house has been secured so all is good on that front, but we sustained some water damage inside. It looks like we had a power surge or brownout issue though as the fridge is dead and the PC etc seems to have problems. Will update as I work though it.

Poita, I seriously think you should create and participate to a show called “Extreme restoring”, where people try to restore old movies but are constantly bothered by tornados, disk crashes, etc. With your tenacity, you would certainly win the contest! Hope this made you smile a bit 😃

Take care.

Good to hear about the house. Hopefully all that’s wrong with the computer is the power supply. Were you using a surge protector?

I’m hoping it’s just the PSU, but I can easily see a fried PSU doing much more damage than to just the PSU alone.

I’m hoping the disks are fine, at least, so that you can transfer them to another computer if you do need a replacement.

It looks like a tree smashed into the power lines, snapping the power pole and taking out the transformer on the pole, we may have gotten however many thousand volts are on the line pre-transformer down the line briefly.
It fried the surge suppressor and the UPS and took out the power supply. I am dreading pulling the mother board to look to see if there is damage, I have to remove all 13 HDDs, and mark the cables so that the two RAIDs don’t get out of whack when I re-assemble.

Hopefully it is just the PSU.

Yeah I was gonna say there’s only so much a surge protector can do. Hopefully all the Hard Drives are OK.

Drives spin up, but don’t know much other than that yet, as they were all in a RAID setup.
Motherboard has copper tracks melted off it, so I’m figuring it is toast. Hopefully CPU and RAM are okay.

Argh…Sorry to read this Poita!

Man, that sucks. Hope the HDs are okay and you have no problem reassembling the raid. That isn’t an incident you can really plan for.

The annoying thing is apparently I have to get the exact same model motherboard for the RAID to come up without issues.
So if anyone can find a Gigabyte X99-UD4, let me know.

You might want to contact Gigabyte. It probably just requires the same RAID controller. They might have some for instances like this.

This kind of situation is the one that I’m always worried about as I have a hardware raid setup at the moment as well. I believe the next time I set up raid it will be software Raid using DMRAID.

Luke threw twice…maybe.

I’m paranoid about RAID for reasons like this… It may not be as good, but I just rsync what I need backed up… Not that that helps any right now. Good luck on the motherboard hunt, and yotsuya’s suggestion of contacting Gigabyte might actually be a good idea at this point.

Yep, that’s the best place to start. Find out from Gigabyte what your options are. There are a few Gigabyte X99-UD4 motherboards on eBay as well.
