I'm completely spoiled for this flick, I read the script, have pics from just about every scene in the movie...still looking forward to seeing it, as much as I did before I was spoiled.

SPOILER

There are parts in the beginning and end of the film that visually will definately give you some nice fuzzy flashbacks to the OT.

Yes and no, I'd rather see her death in ROTS rather than have her live beyond episode III and wonder how or why she died.

Lucas was kind of in a no win, because we all knew from the OT, she died somehow and the best possible senario for her death was probably at the hands of Anakin after he turned to the darkside. It's kind of hard to believe by itself she died because she was force choked, but if you add in the fact, Anakin who she loved was lost to the darkside, the Republic was no more and the Jedi had been hunted down and all but killed...it was written as symbolic as her no longer wanting to live. (I'm sure there's mythology reference in there some where.)

By the same token I almost wish Han Solo had died in sacrifice at the end of ROTJ (another redemption symbol), like Harrison and Kasdan had strongly suggested...As much as the like the scene with Leia revealing Luke was her brother at the end...I think It would have added more depth.

The thing I can't stomach is the reason that the medical droids gave to Obi-Wan after finding nothing medically wrong with her, "She's just lost the will to live."

Padme was a weak character. A weak death seems fitting for her.

According to the OT, Leia remembered her mother a little bit. She said she didn't remember much more than feelings, but I still can't believe that she would have remembered her as a new-born. Even if you say it was because Leia felt her sorrow through the force it doesn't explain it. Luke would have been able to feel it too and he says he has no memory of his mother. The only practical explanation was that when the twins were split up, Luke was taken to Tatooine and Leia went with Padme and the Organas into hiding on Alderaan. Eventually something would cause Padme's death, but not before Leia had become a little girl and could have reason to have some memory of her mother.

The whole story of what happened to Padme would have made a great episode of the new TV series.

I believe the official explanation is that these are Force visions of her mother, rather than memories. Since she wasn't aware of her Force abilities, she attributed these visions to memories.

"The only practical explanation was that when the twins were split up, Luke was taken to Tatooine and Leia went with Padme and the Organas into hiding on Alderaan. Eventually something would cause Padme's death, but not before Leia had become a little girl and could have reason to have some memory of her mother."

Ironically, it is described as such in the novelization:

The question took her totally by surprise. She'd always felt so close to her adopted parents, it was as if they were her real parents. She almost never thought of her real mother-that was like a dream.

Yet now Luke's question made her start. Flashes from her infancy assaulted her-distorted visions of running…a beautiful woman…hiding in a trunk. The fragments suddenly threatened to flood her with emotion.

"Yes," she said, pausing to regain her composure. "Just a little bit. She died when I was very young."

"What do you remember?" he pressed. "Tell me."

"Just feelings, really…images." She wanted to let it slide, it was so out of the blue, so far from her immediate concerns…but somehow so loud inside, all of a sudden.

"Tell me," Luke repeated.

She felt surprised by his insistence, but decided to follow him with it, at least for the time being. She trusted him, even when he frightened her. "She was very beautiful," Leia remembered aloud. "Gentle and kind-but sad." She looked deeply into his eyes, seeking his intentions. "Why are you asking me this?"

He turned away, peering back up at the Death Star, as if he'd been on the verge of opening up; then something scared him, and he pulled it all in once more. "I have no memory of my mother," he claimed. "I never knew her."
